Eddie IKERD, widely known local resident, died at the family residence on West Main
Street, unexpectedly, at 12:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon. He was 84 years of age.
Mr. IKERD was born January 28, 1881, in Bedford, and was the son of Jet and Cansada
(SPEER) IKERD.
The deceased was a member of the Bloomfield Methodist Church, the K. of P. Lodge, and was
a retired accountant. Mr. and Mrs. IKERD moved to Greene County from Bedford in 1917,
locating in Linton, where he was an accountant for the Bell Telephone Company. Late, the
office was transferred to Bloomfield, and the family moved to Bloomfield in 1919. After
the telephone office was transferred to Indianapolis, Mr. IKERD was accountant for the
Earl AIKEN Flower Company, which is now the Bloomfield Woolen Company, and was later
associated with the Brown Motor Sales. Before his retirement, he served two terms as
deputy treasurer, with County Treasurers Pearl SHOUSE and Frankie JUSTUS.
Mr. IKERD was preceded in death by a son, Louis. He is survived by the wife, Mrs. Mabel
Virginia IKERD and on October 26, 1964, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding
anniversary. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Margaret MARTINDALE, and a sister, Mrs.
Harry L. RAGSDALE, of Bedford.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Jenkins Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Howard DAVIDSON officiating. Burial was made in Grandview Cemetery.
