THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, August 31, 1972, Volume
XCVII, Number 45, Page 1, Column 7, “George M. Hays, 65,Succumbs Saturday.”
George M. HAYS, 65, well-known resident of West Davis Street and a former local
businessman, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Bloomington Hospital.
The deceased was born in Chicago on April 8, 1907, the son of Harry H. and Le Vern (MYNOR)
HAYS. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Bloomfield Rotary Club, American
Society of Civil Engineers, State Board of Professional Engineers and National Association
of County Engineers. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II and retired as a
Lt. Col.
Hays had served as Greene County Engineer since 1957, when he retired from the retail
furniture business here. He was also serving as a member of the Greene County Hospital
Association.
Surviving are the mother, of Bloomfield; the widow, Genevieve H. {Gene} (CLEMENTS) HAYS;
three daughters, Mrs. Alayne ROBERTS of Columbus, Mrs. Jeanie HINMAN, Indianapolis, and
Mrs. Marilee LEE, West Lake Village, California; eight grandchildren and a brother, Harry
L. HAYS, Brownsburg.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Name Church with Father
Raymond Smith, officiating. Interment was made in Grandview Cemetery here.
