THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 2, 1916, Volume
XXXIX, Number 16, Page 8, Column 2, “OBITUARY. Nickless.” [Transcribed on September 1,
2005 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern
Greene County Public Library.]
Russell NICKLESS was born in Tennessee, February 11, 1831; died at the home of his
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Maud NICKLESS, in Midland, February 11, 1916, aged eighty-five
years.
He was married to Susan HODGE, and to this union were born ten children—only two of whom
survive—Mrs. Joe COLLINS, of Lyons, and Mrs. Minnie STEEL, of Kansas. His wife died six
years ago.
As a husband and father he was always kind, loving, helpful and sympathetic. He had no
enemies, and believed, “Man is Man.” “Therefore, we all do things sometimes that is not
right,” and he forgave on this principle. Death was like going to sleep.
A short funeral service was held at the home in which he died. The remains were taken to
Elnora. Interment in the Slinkard Cemetery near Newberry{??}, his old home.
