The following is from a clipping pasted in an old scrapbook I acquired at an
estate auction.
Most of the information in the scrapbook dates between 1895 and 1903.
DECKARD DENNY WEDDING
Mr. Oscar Deckard, of Grant township, and Miss Ollie Denny, of Marco, were
united in the holy bonds of matrimony last Thursday at high noon in the M.
E. church at Marco, Rev. J. B. Johnson, of Pleasantville, officiating. The
groom is a son of auditor elect W. H. Deckard, and is a very prominent and
intelligent youg man, liked by all who is acquainted with him. After
completing a high school course at Lyons he attended Purdue University, he
is now considered on of the most highly respected and leading farmers in
Greene County. The bride is the oldest daughter of L.A. Denny, a very
prosperous and wealthy farmer of near Marco. She is a very prominent young
lady and highly esteemed in society. To know her is to lover he. She is a
member of t the Marco high school. She is also an accomplished mucisian.
Her presence in society will be greatly missed.
The groom was attired in black while the bride was beautifully attired in
pearl satin. She carried a large bunch of bride's roses tied with a large
bow of satin ribbon.
The bridesmaids were Misses Pearl Holder, of Lyons, and Dolly Ramsey, of
Bloomfield, were beautifully dressed in white organdy, and the groomsmen
were Messrs, Ollie McIndoo and Earl Ferguson, who were attired in black.
The little flower girls were Toka Denny and Hursel Fetter, who were
beautifully dressed in white crepe. They were each carrying a bunch of pink
carnations tied with a bow of white satin ribbons.
The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, vines and evergreens.
The windows were shaded and lights were burning, producing a most beautiful
scene.
While the wedding march was being played the bridal couple were led to the
alter by the litte flower girls, the groomsmen and bridesmaids following.
The bride and groom stood under an arch which was most beautifully
decorated.
