Charles “Chuck” MANSFIELD, 88, of Bloomfield, died Saturday at his residence.
Born March 11, 1901, in Posey County, Missouri, he was the son of Oscar and Adeline
(KIRKPATRICK) MANSFIELD.
He was actively involved in Greene County Republican Party politics and served two terms
as sheriff from 1944—1948. He owned and operated service stations in Bloomfield and Switz
City and a Goodyear store. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bloomfield,
Bloomfield Masonic Lodge, the Murat Temple of Indianapolis and the Scottish Rite of
Indianapolis. He belonged to the sheriff’s merit board and was also a Sagamore of the
Wabash.
Survivors include one son, Forest Jim STONE, of Indianapolis; one daughter, Betty Jane
BARR of Cape Coral, Florida; one half-sister, Nina CHESTNUT of Owensburg; four
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith (CARMICHAEL) MANSFIELD in 1980; his parents,
four sisters, two brothers, and one grandson.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev.
Billy HOSTETTLER officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
A Masonic service will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jenkins Funeral Home.
The family suggests contributions, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Bloomfield Christian
Church.
