Frederick S. HERZOG, the well known millwright, who had been seriously ill for several
weeks of arterial trouble or paralysis, died suddenly Wednesday forenoon. He has lived in
Bloomfield since 1884 and had always been a hardworking attentive man, whose friends were
limited only by the circle of his acquaintanceship. He was born May 5, 1836 in
Kirchheide, Germany, and came to the united States in 1857, locating in Knox County, where
he lived until 1861, when he enlisted in the Civil War as a private in COMPANY B,
TWENTY-SIXTH INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY. At the close of the war he returned to Knox
County and followed the occupation of cabinet maker and miller.
He was twice married. First, to Miss Frances KEITH, in 1866, who died March 3, 1879. By
this marriage three children survive the father. They are: Herbert H. HERZOG, of
Nebraska; Herman HERZOG, of Marion, Indiana, and Miss Orlie HERZOG, of Clarkston,
Washington. About ten years ago the deceased married Mrs. Harriett DEAN, of this place,
who also survives him.
The deceased was a member of the Baptist church and has affiliated with the I. O. O. F.,
joining that order at Worthington.
The funeral services will be held at the family home on north Washington street this
(Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. order. The
religious services will be conducted by Rev. P. H. FAULK and Rev. E. H. WOOD.
Interment in Grandview Cemetery.
