What a fun question! By looking through all the already printed books of family histories
that you can find at your local library, you can decide which publication format pleases
you best. I just received a family book which is very dry with just straight descendancy
lines and only a few pictures in the back. Ho-hum. One gentleman's wife collected all
the legal and courthouse records and put them in the back of his family book, while he
related stories of his family and the neighborhood mingled with pictures in the front half
of his book. It is possible to intermingle pictures with descendancy trees with stories as
they appear appropriate. The question is, who is your audience? Good pictures make the
book!
Most people love to find pictures and some of their ancestors in your book. If you take
the time to put an index, they can read your book anyway that they want. I like the
"intermingle" approach.
