Hi,
I've been mulling over that same thing, I have FTM and it will print
things out as I have most of my important info on the family in the notes
section, but I've decided to write an oral history of each Surname I am connected
to and then I'm adding old photos and putting in documents with that and I'm
doing it myself, so I'm putting it all in a binder. I figured if I didn't do
it this way so it would be easier to read, then all my work would have been
for nothing as far as anyone else ever reading it.
This past Christmas, I finished writing a book for my family about my
Ancestors Who Fought in the Civil War.....I did a listing of all the ancestors
and their brothers, cousins etc who I knew about with their Regiment info. I
did a Battle timeline, to show who fought in the same battles, then I did
sections devoted to my Skinner, Livingston, Scott, Baldwin and Noel families,
which included photos that I had scanned and put on a disc and developed, I
mounted these photos and took them to Staples and had them printed up. In all
I printed out 10 books for family and one which I gave to the Owen
Co.Library. I surprised myself in being able to do this, in all it was about 100
pages, but it got my feet wet and then I was ready to start writing out each
family history.....I have finished my Skinner's the written part is over 100 pages
and I haven't even started on their documents and photos, so I was surprised
about the length of it, since I only have them back to 1794 in KY. I've now
started on my Scotts, but have been sidelined with regular genealogy on my
Baldwin line.
Hope this has given you one idea.....good luck!
Nancy
This is as good a forum as any to ask for opinions.
I have binder after binder and reams of papers with stacks of pictures
collecting around the house. With some recent emails, I've come to the conclusion
that I need to get better organized and perhaps consider getting it at least
printed, if not published.
My question is, to what format should it be compiled?
Simply collecting cold facts of dates, names and places is easy and my
Ancestry Family Tree program is great for my personal use, but i'm not too sure
how to print it into "book" form.
Any suggestions will be great, especially if you have done this before.
