THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, April 1, 1920, Volume
XLIV, Number 20, Page 1, Columns 4 & 5, “DEATH’S HARVEST—COX.” [Transcribed 30
December 2001 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm
Records.]
Louisa Margaret (CARMICHAEL) COX, daughter of Thomas G. and Polly CARMICHAEL, was born
December 13, 1838, in Hobbieville, Indiana. Was married to Isaac COX, February13, 1853.
To this union seven children were born—Mrs. Sarah E. RUSH, of Owensburg; Millard F. and
James H. COX, of Hobbieville; Mrs. T. H. REED, of Bloomington; O. M. COX, of Martinsville;
Mrs. Ed RAINBOLT, of Bloomfield, and Quince COX, of Bloomington. There are fourteen
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One brother, John W. CARMICHAEL, of
Hastings, Nebraska, and one sister, Sarah E. CARMICHAEL, of Hobbieville, are the only
surviving members of her immediate family.
She was indeed a devoted mother, never hesitating to sacrifice herself for her family’s
welfare. Her last illness she bore with the utmost patience.
She was a member of the M. E. church. Her knowledge of the immortality of the soul was a
great comfort to her, and many times during her sickness she was conscious of the presence
of her beloved ones who had passed over the “Great Divide.”
While her material body lies lifeless, we know that she still lives and has been born anew
in the spirit and has entered into a higher degree of life. One comforting fact, which we
know to be true, is that under certain natural laws we can converse with her the same as
when in the material.
There is no death; there are no dead; what seems so is transition.”
The funeral services were held at the old home in Hobbieville last Thursday afternoon,
conducted by the Rev. Ernest SHEPHERD of Owen County. Interment in the Hobbieville,
Cemetery.
