THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, April 8, 1920, Volume
XLIV, Number 21, Page 1, Columns 5, “DEATH’S HARVEST—QUAKENBUSH.” [Transcribed 31 Dec
2001 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.]
Edith E. QUAKENBUSH, daughter of Matthew and Eliza QUAKENBUSH, was born October 22, 1896,
near Newberry, and departed this life at Indianapolis, March 23, 1920, at the age of
twenty-three years, five months and one day.
Most of her life was spent in Newberry. She attended the public school and graduated with
the class of 1916. She was a member of the Christian church at Newberry.
At the time of her death she was a government employee in the U. S. Treasury Department at
Washington, D.C.
Her health had been failing for some time, though her untimely death came as a shock to
those who knew her.
She leaves a father, stepmother, three sisters and two brothers, and many relatives and
friends to mourn her death. Her mother, one brother and a sister have preceded her in
death.
The body was held in state at the home of her brother in Indianapolis, March 24, and
brought her March 25 to be buried in the Newberry cemetery on that date.

The family wish to thank the many friends and relatives who have assisted in this their
sad hour of need; also wish to thank those who have sent the beautiful floral offerings.
