THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 7, 1935,Volume
LIX, Number 19, Page 7, Column 1, “OBITUARY—POE.” [Transcribed September 1, 2003 from
microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public
Library.]
One of Linton’s best known citizens, James Henry POE, seventy-one years of age, expired at
9 o’clock Saturday morning at the POE family home in Linton.
Ill for the past five years, Mr. POE had been confined to his home practically all the
time since the inception of the illness. Although his condition had been regarded as
serious at numerous times, it was only during recent weeks that the end appeared imminent.
Born north of Linton, near Jasonville, on August 27, 1863, Mr. POE spent his entire life
in Greene County. He was a member of a prominent family, his mother being Mrs. Emaline
POE, a sister of the late Uncle Henry HUMPHREYS. His mother died a year ago at the age of
ninety-three years.
