Last night death claimed William D. BEARD, who had been living at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Lewis WILKERSON, north of town. He had been sick at his home in Solsberry
for many months and had been confined to his bed since January. About six weeks ago he
was brought to the home of his daughter, and was accompanied by his wife, who is also
quite feeble.
The deceased was born in Harrison County seventy-six years ago on June 15, and after he
grew to manhood, he was united in marriage with Cordelia TROTTER, and soon after located
in Greene County. For a number of years he engaged in the general merchandise business at
Cincinnati, where he was associated with his brother, George W. BEARD, who was publisher
of THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS in 1884 and 1885. In the early eighties the deceased located at
Solsberry, where he engaged in farming.
Mr. BEARD was the father of nine children, one preceding him to the better land. His wife
and the following children survive to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate companion
and father: Mrs. Otto STEIN, of Hannibal, Missouri; Howard BEARD, of Columbus, Ohio;
Walter BEARD, of Arcola, Illinois; Ferd BEARD, of Solsberry; Mrs. Lucy WILKERSON, Victor
BEARD, Troy and Charles BEARD of this place.
The funeral services will be held at the family home in Solsberry Friday, conducted by
Rev. CLAY, pastor of the M. E. church. The burial services will be in charge of Solsberry
Lodge of Masons. Interment in the cemetery east of Solsberry.
