I am researching Emily Brooks Martin Miller, she is the great great grandmother of Wanda
Martin Case, whose line is:
Joseph G. Martin & Emily Brooks
Joseph H. Martin & Eva Jane Hicks (raised by Abraham Mason & Malinda Brooks)
James Luther Martin & Janie S. Oliver
Earnest Lee Martin & Florence McGatha.
Wanda Martin & Thomas Case
I have a couple of things that might help clarify Emily Brooks. I still have not found
Emily Brooks parents as yet but there are two early settlers in Greene County, Indiana;
Jesse Brooks who drowned in the Richland Creek just east of Bloomfield. (noted in the
History of Greene Co., IN as a early settler about 1823) and Samuel Brooks who settled in
Jefferson Twp., Greene Co., about 1819 just before the organization of Greene County in
1821.
I believe that Emily and Malinda Brooks were sisters. Malinda was born about 1824 in
Indiana and Emily was born about 1830 in Indiana. Malinda married Abraham Mason, March 30,
1843 in Greene County (listed in Indiana Marriages before 1850) and Emily married Joseph
G. Martin, February 23, 1845 in Greene County (listed in Indiana Marriages before 1850).
Malinda & Abraham never had any children but was raising a child named Eva Jane Hicks
in 1860. (She married Joseph H. Martin, February 12, 1866 in Greene County) Emily &
Joseph had Joseph H. Martin as you know. Emily & Joseph may have divorced about April
1848 in Greene County. Does anyone have that document or its citation?
Malinda & Abraham stayed married until her death December 19, 1873 in Richland Twp.,
Greene Co., IN. I haven't found their graves yet but I am still looking. Emily Martin
(nee Brooks) married Job Miller, July 3, 1848 in Greene County (Book E, Page 51)

Emily Miller, 24, f, IN
Joseph R. Martin, 3, m, IN (should be H.)
I am also curious about Andersonville, GA as the death place of Joseph G. Martin. He was
old enough to have fought in the Civil War and there are plenty of Joseph Martins from
Indiana who did. But when I started checking the history of Georgia, it stated the town
was actually Anderson until the town became the Confederate Prisoner of War Camp about
1864, 10 years after Joseph G. Martin is sited as dying there. Can anyone help me narrow
this research?
It has been memtioned that Job & Emily (Hicks) Miller had a son Stephen Miller (1849).
I have not been able to located anything on this person, can anyone help me? I figure
Emily & Job's marriage ended between 1854-1858 but I don't know by what means.
They did have 5 children: Louisa born after September 1850; Mary born about 1851; Lucy
born about 1852; Edward born about 1853, Emily born about 1854 (the births calculated from
1860 Census ages)
Job Miller did marry Elizabeth Jane Lamb, April 15, 1848 in Greene County and they had a
daughter named Martha born about 1858.

Lucy Miller, 8, f, NC
Edward Miller, 7, m, NC
Emily Miller, 6, f, NC
Martha Miller, 2, f, NC
Joseph Martin, 13, m, NC
As you can see by this census Emily's son Joseph Martin is living with Job and his new
wife. Based on this census I am hoping that Emily died and did not desert her children.
Job Miller went on to have several other children. It appears that his father-in-law may
have died and Job moved his family onto his in-laws farmer to take over.

(Somehow they missed Martha who would have been 12 and Emma/Emily would actually be 16,
Edward would actually be 17, Lucy actually 18 and Mary 19)
I would like to address Jeremiah Cullison as a 3rd husband of Emily Brooks. I found 2
Jeremiah Cullison in the 1860 Census (3 years after your state marriage date of March 5,
1857)
1860 Vincennes Twp., Knox Co., IN; August 2

I did not find a Jeremiah Cullison, age 73, listed in 1870 but I did find an Emily
Cullison:
1870 Grant Twp., Greene Co., IN; June 30
Dwelling 71, family 71, page 10, line 35

Based on this census I started looking for Emily Craig. I found one born about 1817 who
married ISAAC MILLER, March 2, 1844 in Owen Co., IN. Then she married Jeremiah Cullison,
March 5, 1857 in Greene County. His probably died about 1862 in Vincennes Twp., Knox
County leaving Emily to turn back to her family since she & Jeremiah did not have
children together. It turns out that Jeremiah Cullison had a son, Jeremiah the 3rd who
married Susannah Baker, March 22, 1855 in Owen County, Indiana (Index to Marriage Record
1850 - 1920; book 28, page 57).
I hope this will help those who are researching these families.
