The following appeared in a l930's Linton Daily Citizen:
"A clipping from the old Linton Record of 1908 was handed to the
Linton Daily Citizen by Lew O'Brien, a resident of Linton for the past
44 years.
"The article, relative to the Fairview cemetery, relates interesting
information regarding the burial grounds north of the City. The
cemetery opened in l898, and from that time up to 1908, a total of
761 burials was made at Fairview. Present estimates show that
nearly 7,000 people have been buried at the cemetery.
"Under the heading of 'Fairview History', the following article
appeared in the Record of the year of 1908: 'Ira E. Adams,
custodian of the Fairview cemetery north of the city hands the
Record some interesting statistics concerning that burying
ground. The plot is one of the most beautiful to be found
anywhere.
" ' The cemetery was opened in l898 and the first burial was
that of Carl Strong whose body was removed from the old Linton
cemetery on April 15, 1898. The first burial proper was that of Mrs.
Robert Froeske on May 24 of that same year. The following list
of burials by years since the opening of the cemetery: l898-19;
l890-24; l900-42; 190l-68; l903-77; l904-111; 1905-129; 1906-108;
1907-118.' "
