Martha's Parents were J.L. and Susan Arthur. J.L. fought inthe Civil war but
his side came in 2nd. My mother in Law was raised by Floyd and martha and I
suspect that is why she called Abe Lincoln ( That Dam Flatlander ) and would
raise her voice when some one said the South lost, and say it aint over yet.

The Rev. Oral E. BURKS of 1117 Grand Ave, died at
4:15 a.m. today at the Poplar Bluff Hospital. He had
been ill for one month.
The Rev. Mr. BURKS, 85, was a retired employee of
the Baldwin Block Company. He was born on Dec. 14,
1891. On Jan. 11, 1916, he married Bessie BALTIMORE
who died on Oct. 1, 1973. Mr. BURKS was member of
the Community Church of God.
Survivors are two sons, Jessie BURKS of Franklin,
Ind., and Kenneth BURKS of Poplar Bluff; two
daughters, Mrs. Neoma WHITE of Spencer, Ind., and
Mrs. Betty NEW of Ellettsville, Ind.; several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one
sister, Mrs. May BOWEN of Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral plans are incomplete. Whites Funeral
Chapel in Fisk will be in charge of the arrangements.
