My great grandmother was Elsie (Elsey) Clark, daughter of Eli and Sarah E. Stewart. I have been looking for information on Sarah E. Stewart for years and have not come up with her parents. It is nice to know that I have a cousin I didn't know about.

Charles Oscar Davis is correct. Do you happen to know the names of the children of Charles & Maggie?
I've been researching this line for some time. I'm a direct descendant of Jonas Uland & Elizabeth Bingham. My mother's name was Uland. Her father married Alecy Anderson, 1st. cousin of Maggie.

Not related, just trying to help. I believe she was the daughter of Thomas Bingham and Maggie L Davis who married in Greene county on 17 Oct 1898, source is book P, page 70. This was not the first marriage for Maggie so Davis is not her maiden name. You can fnd Jessie with her parents in the 1900 census for Greene county, Beech Creek township, Dist 20, page 7B, and in 1910 in Greene county, Highland township, Dist 31, page 2A. In the 1900 census her date of birth is listed as Nov 1899. Don

Hi Carol, your posting about the health departments vital records was correct. They keep the birth and death records in the back. There are some index books to the side that are open to the public so that page and book #'s may be jotted down and then a request for a copy of those records will be xeroxed for about $1.00 a page. Marriage records must still be obtained in the clerk's office in the courthouse, also for about $1 a page. Many records in being reviewed for digitizing and a meeting will take place soon to get that project off the ground. If anyone needs a lookup for the page and book # for those records, the historical society can do that. You may call 812-384-8400 Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for that free information. You can also request that information in writing from the Clerk's office at the courthouse or the health department on Judge Street, Bloomfield, IN 47424.The library website is also a very good source for research as was mentione!
d in a previous message. Anyone can write to the Greene County Historical Society at 27 S. Washington St. Bloomfield, IN 47424 for information. We are always glad to help.

I was at the Greene County Health Department in June of this year, and as we chatted, two of the personnel who were wonderful, helpful and friendly, told me that the birth and death record books were to be micro-filmed because so many people, like me, were coming in to go through the vital records books personally. The Health Department does not let researchers handle the books because they are old and becoming fragile.
I don't live in Indiana and know nothing about the Greene County Historical Society.

Your post makes no sense. Who is Matt Mulligan and what does he have to do with marriage licenses at the Bloomfield Libary?
What does lies lies lies mean?
I think you have misread all the posts about this subject. There is no malice or defamation of character. To defame someone, you have to point your finger at a particular person and say terrible, untruthful things about that person.

Folks, defamation of character does not belong on this message board. Matt Mulligan has a restraining order against him for cursing and threatening members of the Greene County Historical Society. In truth, The GCHS is currently working with the Indiana Supreme Court AND the Greene County Authorities to have the records digitized. Lies, lies, lies!

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, November 30, 1939, Volume LXIV, Number 5, Page 1, Columns 1 & 2, "Joseph Thompson Dies At Home of Daughter; Was Civil War Veteran-Was One of Three Surviving Veterans of Civil War In Greene County." [Transcribed on November 4, 2007 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
Joseph THOMPSON, commander of the Paul E. Slocum Post No. 85 of the G. A. R. of Bloomington, died at 4:00 a.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William YOHO, in Solsberry. Mr. THOMPSON was one of three surviving Civil war veterans of the Paul E. Slocum G. A. R. post, and had been ill two weeks following a stroke of paralysis. He was ninety-three years old, having been born August 5, 1846, in County Antrim, Ireland.
The elderly Mr. THOMPSON came to this country at the age of eight with his parents, Gilbert and Agnes THOMPSON. The family located along Griffey Creek on the Hinkle Hill. The Irish youth married Mary Ellington WILKERSON, a native of Greene County. She died four years ago at the age of ninety, and like her husband, was an active and well known resident until her final illness.
Commander THOMPSON obtained his Civil war service as a private of COMPANY 7 of the INDIANA {LIGHT} ARTILLERY, as his discharge testifies. He was with Grant, but never has been very talkative concerning his share in the War Between the States. He is described as having been a very quiet, although friendly, Greene County resident.
An owner of several properties in this and adjoining counties, Mr. THOMPSON, a few years ago moved from his home on the Bloomfield road and just west of the county line to property in the eastern edge of Greene County. Four years ago he aided in the construction of his stone residence there along the Bloomfield road. Mr. THOMPSON was a carpenter and took an active part in the erection of the home, crawling about the joists with the agility of men forty years younger than himself. The elderly veteran since had lived by himself at the home, taking an active interest in farming as always.
His final illness resulted from a stroke of paralysis which occurred November 11 when he was taken to Bloomington to visit with Columbus REEVES, a comrade Civil war veteran now in the Bloomington hospital. During the resultant illness, Mr. THOMPSON was cared for at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William YOHO, in Solsberry, where he died.
He was a regular and active member of the Greene County Chapel church and a devoted participant in patriotic observances. His last such participation was as one of the veterans riding at the head of the state Legion parade during the convention at Bloomington.
Mr. THOMPSON's death leaves but two surviving Civil war veterans in Greene County, Harrison RHODENBECK, of Linton, and George ROLLISON, of Plummer.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Greene County Chapel, with the Rev. John M. WALKER, of the Fairview Methodist church, and the Rev. A. J. PROPHETER, of the Arlington Methodist church, officiating. A Color guard of members of the Bloomington Legion post and a firing squad and bugler from the Veterans of Foreign Wars attended the graveside rites at the Greene County cemetery.
Survivors include six daughters and one son, Mrs. Voris FREEMAN and Mrs. Fred BAKER, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Walter BREEDEN, of Stanford; Mrs. William YOHO, of Solsberry; Mrs. May ROBADEAUX and Mrs. Orth JACKSON and Worth THOMPSON, of Bloomington. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

This website has birth, death and marriage records for Greene County posted online. The Bloomfield Library has a great genealogy section: http://www.bloomfield.lib.in.us/project1/
The information online is not detailed, but you will get the book and page number for the marriage. If you call the Health Department in Greene County, they may be able to tell you the name of the parents from the original books if the marriage occured after a certain date. I think marriage applications were required sometime in the 1890s. I may be wrong.
When I was in Greene County this spring, I was told they were going to be microfilming the old books to preserve them because of the number of people requesting information was causing the books to deteriorate. I don't know if they started that project yet.

Does anyone know where I can find the complete pages of the 1920 census. The heritagequestonline.com source only shows part of the page, that is, it does not show the columns "personal description," "citizenship," and "education." I am particularly interested in page 46 of T625, roll 435 which shows "Doyle HENNON" and the information listed. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
I just sent you the page from Ancestry

Another sister, Catherine Gibbons Watkins Morrison lived in Solsberry and they died in 1870 along with her husband William F Morrison from what I believe the same as the people that you are researching. Their children were raised by relatives the same as yours. Please contact me as I am researching the same.
