Just found out today that Martha Jane "Jennie" McClelland and Charles Edgar ward were married in Kingman, Kingman County Kansas on April 6, 1884.
Hi !
I had GILSON's from Adaire County, MO in 1880. Unfortunately, death
records do not go back that far.
My John Gilson b. 1814 Columbiana Co. Ohio moved from Greene County, Indiana
to Missouri.
John died between 1880 and 1885 as he is shown on the Adair County Census in
1880 and his wife Edna (HUNTER) Gilson is shown on the 1885 Otoe County,
Nebraska State census as a widow.
I have never been able to place the actual death date or location for John
Gilson.

Subject: [GILSON] Online Missouri Death Certificate Database
Good morning,
This link for online Missouri Death cert has many Gilson members listed.
Not all are on line as of yet, but it is a great start.
Hope those of you with Missouri roots can find some Gilsons there. I looked
briefly at few this morning and several of the Gilsons had their parents
names and places of birth on the death certificates. There were quite a few
parents listed as being born in Ireland.
Please post back to the list if anyone finds a lost Gilson ancestor there.

I believe the report that Sarah's parents were Jesse & Lydia Clark Hutchins is incorrect. Jesse Hutchins descends from Strangeman Hutchins and I have not been able to make any connection of Sarah to that family. That particular Hutchins family arrived in Greene Co. about 1824/25, while Sarah was born 1831 in KY/NC.
I've been working on this particular problem for a few years now as William and Sarah were my great-grandparents. If there is anybody that has any other information, please contact me.

THE KINGMAN JOURNAL, Kingman, Kingman County, Kansas, Friday, February 18, 1938,Volume , Number , Page , Column , “MRS. MILO MITCHELL DIES AT WINFIELD.” [Transcribed on September 16, 2006 by RLJ from a typewritten copy of the article furnished by Cheryl HAYWOOD, Austin, Texas.]
Mrs. Dora (FULLER) (BOLLES) MITCHELL, former Superintendent of Public Instruction of Kingman County and at one time one of its most prominent women, died in Winfield, Saturday. She had a stroke about a year ago and in April, she was taken to Winfield to be near her brothers and sister, who reside there.
The body was brought to Kingman and burial services were held at Walnut Hill Cemetery Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. F. L. PETTIT of the Christian Church.
Mrs. MITCHELL was born in Taylor County, Iowa {correction—born in Greene County, Indiana}in 1853 {March 17}. Later her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. FULLER moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she taught school.
She was married to R. P. BOLLES in 1880 and they came to KINGMAN where she lived most of the rest of her life. Mr. BOLLES practiced law here and after his death she again took up teaching and was employed for a number of years in the city schools. She was elected County Superintendent in 1892 at a time when few women were elected to office, and served four years. Soon after leaving office she was married to Milo M. MITCHELL, another teacher. Mr. MITCHELL died seven years ago. Mrs. MITCHELL was elected a member of Kingman School Board in 1917 and was a member at the time the north addition was built to the present high school building. Her training, her experience and her deep interest in educational affairs mad her a valuable member of the board. During her younger days, Mrs. MITCHELL took an active part in public affairs at a time when it was unpopular and when a woman was subject to ridicule for such work. She was an ardent prohibitionist and one of the pioneers in !
advocating votes for women. While the passing years reduced her activities more and more, she never ceased to stand for what she thought was right on moral and political questions and she lived to see the time when most people agreed with the ideas she advanced years before.
Having no children of her own, many times she took others into her home and cared for them until circumstances became better for them. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. O. R. SHELLEY, J. M. and J. L. FULLER of Winfield and Mrs. Grace COLLINS of Neodesha.

THE KINGMAN JOURNAL, Kingman, Kingman County, Kansas, Friday, December 2, 1921, Volume , Number , Page , Column , “DEATH OF GRANDMA FULLER.” [Transcribed on September 14, 2006 by RLJ from a copy of the original newspaper article furnished by Cheryl Haywood of Austin, Texas.]
The funeral of Grandma FULLER, whose death occurring early last Friday morning was noted in last week’s Journal, was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. M. MITCHELL Saturday morning, with Rev. Arthur J. AIKINS of the Christian church officiating. Burial was made at Walnut Hill, beside her husband, O. P. FULLER, who died in 1904, and her son Lou and wife, who were buried there in 1889.
Grandma FULLER, who was one of the best known and beloved of the older citizens of the community, lived to the age of 89 after seeing her full share of joys and sorrows. She saw her companion go before her, and six of her children, three of home had lived to maturity. Yet with whatever hardship or grief came her way, she loved life and made life happy for those around her. She came to the end of her journey still smiling, as one who finishes the work of the day and lies down to pleasant dreams.
The following brief obituary, used at the funeral service was written by her son, Judge FULLER:
Elizabeth N. A. HICKS was born in Giles County, Tennessee, on the 30th of September 1832. Her father and grandfather were ministers of the Presbyterian church. She was married to O. P. FULLER in 1848 and was the mother of a large family of whom five sons and five daughters grew to maturity. She buried three of these and two infant children.
For nearly ninety years her life was one of unbroken inspiration in turn to parents, husband and children, relatives and friends—a devoted Christian, and so consistent in belief that to no other person does the say more aptly apply “If her soul were examined from inside to outside, neither speck nor spot nor stain could be found on or about it.”
On November 25 she passed from this state we call life to that we call death, and her children, relatives and friends have an abiding confidence that the constant prayer has been fully answered—
When at last I near the shore
And the raging billows roar
‘Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
Then while leaning on Thy breast
May I her Thee say to me—
Fear not, I will pilot thee.”

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, January 22, 1942, Volume LXVI, Number 13, Page 5, Columns 6, 7 & 8, “CORBIN.” [Transcribed on September 15, 2006 by RLJ from the original newspaper on file in the office of the Recorder of Greene County, Court House, Bloomfield, IN.]
The Robison community was made sad recently by the passing of one of our highly respected ladies, Mrs. W. S. CORBIN. She had been ill for several years and had been confined to her bed for approximately ten months, but her death came as a shock to her neighbors and friends.
During her long illness she was patient and cheerful, always looking on the bright side. She made a valiant fight for life that she might be with her loved ones, but when she realized her course was almost finished, she said she was ready to go. Everything that kind hearts and willing hands could do to restore her health was of no avail.
Estella MAYS was one of a family of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. John MAYS, May 2, 1874; died at her home near Owensburg, Greene County, Indiana, December 13, 1941, aged 67 years, seven months and three days.
She was married to William S. CORBIN in March 1904. To this union three children were born, namely: Fred, principal in the Blountsville, Indiana school; Mrs. Earl CAMPBELL, Buffalo, New York, and Louie, one of Greene County’s school teachers at home.
She leaves to mourn their loss, the husband, the above named children, two step-daughters, Mrs. Edith MURPHY, of Flint, Michigan; Mrs. Hazel ALEXANDER, of Bicknell, who had been at her bed since July, cheerfully administering to her every want and need; three grandchildren, her aged mother, three sisters, Mrs. Nelle COMBS, Mrs. Mayme WILSON, Mrs. Ethel SAUTER, one brother, Emerson MAYS, of Sterling, Illinois, and a host of friends and relatives.
Followed by a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends, she was taken Friday to Ashcraft Chapel, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Logan HATFIELD. Burial in the nearby cemetery.

It is believed that in case Archer is sent up for a long period that some kind people will adopt the children and give them a home.

LINTON MAN SHOOTS WIFE.
Fired into Group of Friends Gathered at Home.
LINTON, Ind., Sept 1. --Promiscuously emptying a revolver into a party of three men and three women who he found in his home, David Archer, miner, 48 years old, instantly killed his wife Sunday night. Suspicion of infidelity caused the tragedy, Archer tells, through Linton jail bars. He was placed under arrest by Officer Roy Pope, shortly after the slaying. Shots aroused the neighbors, who telephoned the police. Archer made no resistance, and was found alone in the house with the body. Three women and two men witnesses had fled the scene. He was placed in the Linton jail.
Coroner Johnson secured a statement from one of these tot he effect that Archer entered the house at 11:30 o'clock, surprising the party in his home.
"I've heard that you are running around with other men, and now I have found you out, " shouted the husband, as he opened fire. Two shots passed through a window, two were buried in the wall, and the fatal fifth found lodgement in Mrs. Archer's brain. Archer was employed at Vandalia mine No. 8.

Hi list,
I have had several people concerned that their "message posts" aren't
showing up on the mailing lists. Here are parts of my answer to them.
The message board is not subscribed to the mailing list.
The open gateways are not working right now. I have to look at each notice
from Rootsweb, decide if it is spam, junk, a legit email, or whatever.
Sometimes it is days before I receive the notices, (when & if I ever receive
one),
If you receive a message, after posting to the message board, it isn't
really a reject or a bounce, it's just letting you know that your post won't
go to the board until I manually OK it. Hopefully they will get the gateway
fixed before long, then the messages from the board will go through on their
own. It supposed to be OK by the end of this month.
Thanks, Donna
