Thanks very much for the info and especially for the quick response. I am trying to connect John W. and Harriet's children to my line, especially their son, William Overman. My g-g-grandfather was named William Overman and he had married and/or had children with a woman named Marinda/Amanda who shows up on the Oregon Co., MO census in 1900 with her new husband, Eli Teller. One of her children with William Overman was my great-grandfather, John William Overman b. 1892. He had sisters Cordelia "Dellie" Overman b. Oct 1888 and May/Mary Overman b. Feb 1890. John William was adopted in 1898 and moved to Reynoldsville, PA where he stayed. That is why he isn't in the 1900 census with his mother and sisters. The family who adopted him was named "Bliss" and had MO connections. His adoption papers have proved difficult to obtain.
The reason I'm searching in Indiana is that family lore told that John William's father, William Overman, came from Indiana or Illinois (facts mangled in the re-telling). Unfortunately, we don't know what happened to William Overman. Long story short, do you know who the children of John W. and Harriet married, particularly William or anything else about the children that might be helpful in connecting them to MO?
Thank you.

Message Board Post:
This will be long so please bare with me. I have 2 Brooks females who married in Greene Co., IN:
Malinda Brooks - Abraham J. Mason, March 3, 1843
Emily Brooks - Joseph G. Martin, February 23, 1845
I believe that they are sisters and came to Greene County with their parents only I don't know who the parents are. Greene County was organized in 1821 and in the history I have only found refernces to 2 male Brooks being Samuel Brooks who settled in Jefferson Twp., Greene Co., in about 1819 and he was later authorized to keep a tavern. The other being Jesse Brooks who drowned in the Richland Creek just east of Bloomfield. He is said to have settled in Greene County about 1823. I had not been able to track these men through 1830, 1840 or 1850 lacking access to these census records.
I know that something happen to end the marriage of emily Brooks and Joseph G. Martin after their son was concieved because Emily Martin married Job Miller on July 3, 1848 in Greene County. The 1850 Census shows Emily's son Joseph H. Martin, age 3, living in Jackson Twp., Greene County. Then Emily Miller dieds and Job marries Elizabeth Lamb and Joseph H. Martin is living with them in the 1860 census in Jackson Twp.
I do not have the 1850 Census of Abraham Mason & Malinda Brooks but I do have the 1860 census where they are living in Bloomfield and have an 8 year old Eva J. Hicks living with them. I do not know who Eva J. Hicks parents are or why she is living with the Masons.
These two Brooks girls were living in Greene County they living in diagonal township (Jefferson & Jackson). The thing is that Joseph H. Martin marries Eva Jane Hicks. This is why I believe the Brooks Women are sisters. With Emily dead before 1860 and Joseph being raised by his step-father and Eva Jane Hicks being raised by Malinda Brooks Mason, the kids could have met when Joseph Martin went to visit his Aunt.
My problem is proving my theory.
1) What I need is the parents of Malinda & Emily Brooks?
2) Who were the parents of Eva Jane Hicks? Was her mother also a Brooks? I have found no Brooks-Hicks marriages prior to 1850 but Eva was born January 6, 1852 near Worthington, Greene County.
3) What happen to her parents? If they died where did they die?
4) Did Emily Brooks Martin divorce Joseph Martin or did he died? If he died where and when? Where is he buried? If they divorced what became of Joseph G. Martin and why did he not come back for his son after Emily died?

I have the civil war record muster records of my gg grandfather William A. Goad. It records his birthplace as Greene County, IN.
He is enumerated with Eliza Goad (presumably, but not necessarily, his mother) and a James Goad (again I presume James to be a brother) in Spring Place in Murray County, GA in the 1850 census.
In 1860, he was enumerated in Benton County AL (now Calhoun) married to Elizabeth Jackson and living next door to her parents.
He fought in the 1st Alabama Cavalry (a Union Regiment) and was captured and executed at Jasper AL near the end of the civil war.
According to the 1850 census his mother and brother are recorded as have being born in TN...if they ARE his mother and brother.
Are there any Goad researchers who might help me locate his parents?

The Greene County, Indiana, burials have been indexed. There is no Lucy or
Robert Adams included in the burials. Also, there are no Forth burials
included.
There is not now and there never has been a Greenfield Township in Greene
County, Indiana.
