THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday November 1922,Volume XLVI, Number , Page , Column , “DEATH’S HARVEST—HARRAH.” [Transcribed on March 23, 2005 by RLJ from the original newspaper on file in the office of the Recorder of Greene County, Indiana.]
Anna R. (DUDLEY) HARRAH, daughter of Samuel H. and Mary E. DUDLEY, was born at Solsberry, Indiana, June 25, 1873.
At the age of thirteen she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Solsberry, of which as been an active and faithful member throughout the years.
On June 6, 1903, she was united in marriage with William M. HARRAH.
While these years have been full of suffering and often this husband and wife have drunk of the cup of bitter disappointment together, yet they have been years of untiring devotion, on for the other. During the past four years, most of the time confined to her bed, she was patient and thoughtful of others and amid her sufferings she never lost sight of the eternal city, whose builder and maker is God, and often quoted from Paul and with him through of suffering here as only being momentarily compared to the glory which was to last forever, and while the earthly house has fallen, the spiritual has taken on enlarged visions, and though the voice which to us has been so familiar and which grew weaker with days of suffering breaks forth in the celestial city in tones both strong and melodious, for on November 1, 1922, she closed her eyes to things on earth, the gates to the eternal city were opened, the doors to heaven stood ajar and she went out to occupy that mansion in the s!
ky.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, William M. HARRAH; her mother, Mary E. DUDLEY; one brother, Henry E. DUDLEY, of Bloomington; and four sisters, Mrs. Albert OGG, of Winnett, Montana; Mrs. W. L. BROWN, of Spencer; Mrs. Thomas HUDSON, of Hendricksville, and Mrs. J. H. CHRISTY, of Romona, and a host of friends and other relatives.
Her years of suffering are over and could she speak to us she would say: “Weep not for me.” Our loss is her eternal gain and as we tenderly lay this body away it is not without hope for in the eternal city we shall live together again.
—
We, as a family, desire to extend our grateful and heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who so willingly and tenderly assisted us during the long illness of our loved one. To the precious children for their smiles and flowers they carried to her; also to Bros. ELLIS and GETTINGER for their consoling words; the choir and undertaker and for the beautiful floral offerings.
HUSBAND, MOTHER, SISTERS AND BROTHER.

A loving Mother so dear, so rare
The trials she bore so few could bear
She never complained, she wasn’t that kind
She was one of those mothers so hard to find.
Her’s was a heart, jolly and gay;
Scattering sunshine along the way.
Peacefully sleeping, resting at last.
The worldly troubles and trials are past.
In silence she suffered, in patience she bore
Till God called her home to suffer not more,
On December 10, {1910} Vivian Lorene was born to Albert and Ada (LONG) WRIGHT, near Robison, Indiana. Departed this life at her home in Cincinnati, Indiana August 9, 1944, Age 33 years, 7 months and 29 days. Almost her entire life was spent in the vicinity of her birth. She was united in marriage to Alva STRAUSER March 1, 1930. To this union two children were born, Delores Fern, born September 7, 1935 and Marlin Roy, born May 31st, 1943.
The deceased is survived by the husband and above named children. Also the father, Albert WRIGHT, one brother, Jasper WRIGHT, of Bloomfield, Indiana, and one sister, Mrs. Blanche ASHCRAFT, of Cincinnati, Indiana, one half-sister, Mrs. Elsie GEORGE, of Koleen, Indiana and many relatives and friends to mourn her going.
The mother died August 7th, 1922 when Vivian was about 12 years old. Being left without a mother at this tender age her rearing was left to the father and the older sister, Blanche, under whose guiding hands she grew up to be a model Christian woman.
She accepted Christ as her Savior several years ago and continued in that faith until the end. She loved her home and family and did all she could to make them comfortable.
Vivian had been in poor health for a long time and last April she was taken to the Linton hospital for an operation. After five weeks she was returned home where relatives and friends did all they could to relieve her suffering. But God knew best and called her home.
Many times during her last sickness she said she was just waiting the will of the Heavenly Father and was ready to go, and all was sell with her soul. She has folded her hands and lain down to rest.

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, September 7, 1944,Volume LXIX, Number 44, Page 2, Column 1, “OBITUARY—William Morton Harrah” [Transcribed on March 23, 2005 by RLJ from the original newspaper on file in the Office of The Recorder of Greene County, Court House, Bloomfield, Indiana.]
The life of William Morton HARRAH was spent within less than three miles of the place of his birth. Yonder in the edge of Monroe County, a half mile east of White Hall, and not three miles from the home in which these final services are held this afternoon, he was born September 19, 1866. He belonged to a type of people who have no desire to roam. Childhood, manhood, declining years, all were spent here among these hills that he loved dearly—spent here in the valley of Richland Creek, so near, indeed, that its rippling waters were scarcely more than out of his hearing. With him the “Hills of Home” were more than a poetic fancy; they were to him among life’s most enduring realities
He was the youngest of three sons (there were no daughters) born to Samuel A. HARRAH and Sarah HARRAH, whose union in marriage brought together two respected pioneer families of the White Hall community. The other two sons were James Smith HARRAH, who died many years ago, and Charles E. HARRAH, 84 years old, who is now living in Richland, State of Washington.
This youngest of three died at 7:30 o’clock Thursday evening, August 10, 1944; at the home of his son, Herbert HARRAH, in Bloomfield, where he had been since early last spring; aged seventy-seven years, ten months, twenty-one days. He was taken to Bloomfield for the greater convenience of medical attention. Declining heath began about ten years ago, but not until the last few months was he confined to his home.
His father was a gallant soldier in the Civil War, and after his return from the service he often passed under the title of Captain HARRAH. In this home the son was given strict moral training. He attended the district schools, with their meager equipment, and entered into the social life of the White Hall community. He was always a favorite at the parties, his popularity being due to the fact that he always entered heartily into the party games and contests that were popular in the so called life of that day.
As a man he occasionally engaged for a season in other work but his principal life work was farming. Early in manhood years he became deeply and actively interested in politics. He believed firmly in the principles of the Republican Party and in season and out of season he labored zealously for its success, but there was never any bitterness in his partisanship. He was elected and reelected as assessor of Beech Cree Township, and for eight years he served in that capacity, and was recognized as a fair, careful and painstaking officer of sound judgment. During that time he came to know personally every taxpayer in his township. And though his interest in politics he grew into a wide acquaintanceship throughout Greene County. For many years he was one of the principal sponsors of the annual soldiers’ reunion held near White Hall.
He was married three times. His first wife was Miss Cora E. FRANKLIN of Owen County, who after a few years of happy companionship was called by death, leaving him their two children. Some years later he married Miss Ann DUDLEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel DUDLEY of Beech Creek Township. She died while they were living in Hendricksville. Some years later he married Mrs. Ellen ABRAMS of Hendricksville, who survives him, and who devotedly cared for and nursed him during these years of his lingering illness. And in his son’s home he also had loving care and attention.
He leaves also a daughter, Mrs. Gladys JONES, and his brother Charles E. HARRAH, both of Richland, State of Washington; also four grandchildren John Thomas HARRAH, now with the U. S. Armed Forces in England, Betty Lou HARRAH, who was graduated last May from the Bloomfield High School and who will enter Indiana University on a scholarship this fall, William Samuel HARRAH and Hebert Dewayne HARRAH, all of Bloomfield.
In early life he became a member of that little United Presbyterian Church at White Hall where his parents were devoted members and worshippers, and he was brought up in the beliefs of that church including its strict observance of the Sabbath day. His tastes were simple; his life was plain, and without sham or pretense. He was sincere and honest and outspoken. He was blest with a fine memory, and was fluent in the use of his mother tongue, a good conversationalist and well informed. H was always true to his friends of whom he had many. His virtues, his genial good nature, his warmth of personal friendship will not soon be forgotten by those who knew him best.

Albert C LAWSON 68 yrs (b. 1851) Married KY/VA/TN
Nancy A LAWSON 68 yrs Married IN/TN/TN
I also found (what seems to be) their marriage listed in Indiana Marriages 1845-1920:
Albert C LAWSON b. 29 Nov 1851
Nancey E MILLER
Marriage Date: 09 Nov 1918
Does anyone know anything about this couple? I think this may be our long lost great grandfather from Pulaski Co, KY. He’s not on the 1910 or 1920 Census in Kentucky…and these two men sound like they could be the same man:
Both names: Albert C Lawson
Both born: Kentucky
Both DOB: Nov 1851
I'm guessing MILLER is probably Nancy's previous married name, but I have no way of knowing. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks LaVerne

Dear Johanna,
The only one I know of researching the Flater family was Walter Hamlin, but
he passed away a few years ago. He was such a great source of knowledge and
I understand his son is still interested. I was researching the Timmons and
Fullers and Walt tied them all together for me. My great Aunt Mary A.
Timmons married Joseph Flater in 1853.

Thank you Rose for responding. What I'm looking for is someone that can connect George Flater II to his nine children with some kind of documentation.
I have Leola Wright Murphy's book, "The Flaters of Carroll County Maryland" and I found your great Aunt Mary Ann Timmons on page 130. Leola has a page and a half of referances in the back of her book, but I have no idea what to look for.
Nice to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Joanna
