Hi Janet,
I am decended from John Goodman and Jerusha Benefiel. Jerusha's father was reported to be John Benefiel Jr, who married a Miss Ray. He was the son of Col. John Benefiel and Rebecca Fitz-James.
John Benefiel Jr. died between 1809 and 1811. Jerusha was reportedly raised by her Grandfather Col. John Benefiel.
John Goodman died in Indiana in 1841.. Jerusha then married a Martin Walker on 12 Janaury 1845.. Jerusha died 23 July 1858.

I am decended from Israel Goodman. Israel Goodman is the Son of John Goodman. John Goodman married Jerusha Benefiel. John and Jerusha had the following children (all mentioned in the Probate of John's Will, John Goodman died in 1841 in Greene Co., Indiana):Children: Amanda Goodman, Israel B. Goodman, John B. Goodman and Francis Marion Goodman. The Probate states that Bartlett Goodman was the Aministrator of John's Will.
My "brick wall." Is the Bartlett Goodman named as the adminstrator of John Goodman's will the same Bartlett Goodman born in 1783 Virginia and died in 1856 in Greene Co., Indiana. That Bartlett Goodman was married three times, Alelelda Black, Lovinia Page and Ester Burt.
Any confirmation greatly appriceated.

I am new to this list and am seeking informatio on frank W. Keys b. 18 Feb
1872 in Wilson Co., KS. I found him and his wife Corena M. in Centre Twp.,
Greene Co., IN in Jan 1920. I think they were married about 1908 or 07. As
far as I know they had no children. Was wondering it the might have died in
Greene Co. and if so is some one could get me the cemetery name and data on
the headstones. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thought for sure it was my Vincent, son of Jacob Shields and Jane White. His brother, David, lived in Greene County and I just thought perhaps he died there while visiting. Vincent lived in Shelburn, Sullivan County on 1880 census, cannot locate him after that. Also cannot find anything on David or wife, Ellen Box. They lived in Stockton Twp on 1880 census and has a biography in Goodspeed book. Thanks again.

This is a very good site, however, the marriage index portion was poorly done as it appears when the digitization was done, the contractor for the library did not take the time to organize the fiche in alphabetical order.

Although the obituary states North Carolina as her birthplace, I believe this is an error on the part of the writer of the obituary as census data clearly shows Virginia.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Walnut Grove Church of God for William RUTH, 86 year-old local resident. Rev. H. J. TAYLOR officiated, and burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Born in Taylor Township on October 30, 1864, he was the son of Nathaniel and Martha (CORRELL) RUTH. He was a retired farmer and had spent his entire life in the Bloomfield community. He was making his home with a daughter, Mrs. William GAINEY and family at the time of his death. His wife, Emma, preceded him in death.

They settled on a farm near Little Cincinnati, where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Jerry F. HUDSON January 5, 1871. The settled on the old farm where she passed away. She was a member of Old Bethel Church, but later she and her husband moved their membership to Cincinnati. Five children came to bless their home: Thomas, who passed away about two months ago; Mrs. Robert PARKER, who lives near the old home; Frank, of Palestine, Illinois; John, of Oblong, Illinois, and Oral, who passed away when he was seven years old.
There on the farm she and her husband lived and reared their children. She saw them all leave home to make homes of their own, but she always kept the home fires burning for them to come back anytime they wished. She was a great worker in rearing her family, and how we all loved to hear her tell about how she could weave and spin in her girlhood days. She had been ill a great deal in her life, and was the last one of ten children who came through in the covered wagon.
The husband and father passed away about 14 years ago, which was a great shock to her. Thinking she couldn’t-t carry on alone, she went to live with her children, but her home ties were too great and something drew her back to her old home where she and her husband and lived so long. There, alone she spent many lonely days. Her health being bad, the death of son Tom was more than she could bear. So she just gradually became weaker until she passed on. She loved to hear other sing, and in her last illness she asked that someone sing “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross.”
Saturday morning, May 17, she went to meet her Maker, being 89 years, 11 months and 25 days of age. She leaves besides the children, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons, besides a host of nieces and nephews.
“Go to Grandma’s we always have, but never can again. But we’ll meet you again sometime in that Home that you have gained.”
Funeral services were held at Bethel, and burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
