Looking for relation of these people, I have tin type pictures of them. They have to be related to the Dittemore's somehow, as I ended up with them, or they could be related to Ada Slinkard's side of the family. As of now though I have not run up on them in my lines.
I also have a great picture of Wiley Ditte(a)more ( he lived in Linton in 1920) his wife and a child and my great grandmother, Martha Dittemore (my gr grandmother) on Wiley front porch. Also a picture of him with Curtis Dittemore (my gr gr grandfather) his daughter Martha (looks to be about 15 or 16 yrs old) (should make both picture taken about 1911 or 19120 and a few small boys in front of a old store front I'm sure is in Linton as thats where Curtis was a Councilman. I have a copy of an add from 27 July 1939 for a Dry Good store on the West Side Square of Spencer, Ind. could be a picture of that store front. Anyway willing to share. Also if anyone can tell me how the above people are related to the Dittemore's I'd appreciate it.
Have any other question about these just ask. I also have a couple of unknown pictures on my website, could be related to people in Linton if anyone is interested in them www.shellsroots.com just look under the unknown link.

Christy,
I did a Google search and found three contact items for a "Larry Murdock". Each of these were on genealogy sites. They may all be the same person... or perhaps not. You might try sending an email to each one.

John R. MILLER was the son of Harrison and Martha MILLER, of Kentucky. He was born January 12, 1844, and died April 13, 1915, aged 71 years {3 months} and 1 day. He was born and reared in Greene County, Indiana, and has lived here all his life except for a period of about two years when he was in Missouri.
He united in marriage with Elizabeth ROLLINS in 1865. To this union were born three children, two daughters and one son, Mrs. Flora FORDYCE, of Switz City, and Mrs. Florence DAVIS, of Owensburg. The son, Charlie, died at the age of 2 years. After the death of his first companion he united in marriage with Nancy BURKLEY, October 8, 1882, who survives him. To this union were born six children, Jerry MILLER, who died a soldier boy in San Francisco, December 25, 1911; Dan MILLER, of Bedford, and Luther, Homer, John and Mrs. Fanny MILLS, all of Switz City. He has one brother living, Marshall MILLER, of Chicago, Illinois, he being the only one living out of a family of ten children. He united with the Christian church in the spring of 1873 under the influence of the preaching of Rev. William LITTELL, and was a devoted member of the church at Dresden, near Owensburg, in the part of this county, until the church finally went down. He never united with any other church until th!
e fall of 1914, when he joined in with the organization organized in Switz City in October by Bro. T. A. COX, of Bloomfield.
Bro. MILLER fully realized that the summons of death had been read to him. He expressed his willingness to go and was ready for the call. Before the end came he called his loving companion to him and told her not to weep or grieve after him, for all was well with him. He also called his children about him and admonished them to be good and useful men and women. Then he bade them all goodbye and the end came.
The funeral services were conducted from the Switz City Baptist church last Thursday at 2 p.m. by Elders T. A. COX and J. A. SPENCER, and the burial was in the Switz City Cemetery.

I am doing research on Fred Roscoe Cromwell and his family He was the son of Albert and Emma Fields Cromwell can you help me in any way please let me know. Jim Ed my e-mail is jphendricksville(a)aol.com
I am hoping that someone can help me with a couple of questions.
In the 1880 census, I find a Peter Smith, age 45, born KY (both parents
born KY), living with his wife and children in Worthington, Greene Co.
The birth date and place(s) fits the Peter Smith who was the son of
Joseph Smith and his first wife, Lydia Tate. Lydia Tate Smith died in
Pulaski Co., KY, in 1845. Joseph Smith is supposed to have died in
Greene Co., IN, ca. 1873. Joseph Smith married 2) Mary Ann (b. ca. 1793
KY), and possibly 3) another Mary Ann (b. ca. 1821 TN); I have no info on
the deaths of the 2nd two wives.
1) Can anyone help me with a specific death date for Joseph Smith, and
where he is buried? Does he have a wife buried beside him?
On the Greene Co. rootsweb site, there is a list of deaths, and there is
a record for a Pete Smith who died 17 Apr 1919, at age 84, in Worthington
(Book H-5; p. 98). This fits the Peter Smith in the above-mentioned
1880 census.
2) Is there someone who could look up an obit for this Peter Smith, as
well as where he is buried?
Thank you very much for any and all help!

THE BLOOMFIELD DEMOCRAT, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, June 24, 1913,Volume LIV, Number 26, Page 1, Columns 1 & 2, “DEATH OF WELL KNOWN RETIRED U.S. ARMY OFFICER—Major Jonas Aden Emery Dies Suddenly of Heart Failure at his Home in Bloomfield Thursday Evening, June Seventeenth—RETIRED IN 1907 UNDER THE THIRTY YEAR CONTINUOUS SERVICE LAW.” [Transcribed September 12, 2004 from the original newspaper on file in the Office of the Recorder of Greene County, Court House, Bloomfield, Indiana. A digital image of the obituary is attached.]
Major Jonas Aden EMERY, a retired United States Army officer, died at his home on Mechanic Street, Thursday evening, June 17. His death was due to heart trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for several months, and while not wholly unexpected, the sudden call came as a shock to all.
Major EMERY was the son of Nathaniel and Susan (MCWHIRTER) EMERY, honored pioneer residents of Greene County, Indiana. He was born November 8, 1856, and reared on a farm in Taylor Township, where his mother’s parents were the first settlers. His early education was obtained in the country schools and he taught school until the lure of the soldiers career led him to seek and obtain a cadetship in the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1877.
After four years spent in that institution, he was graduated and received a commission as Second Lieutenant of the Eleventh Infantry U.S.A.
His first station after leaving West Point was at Fort Sulley, Dakota, where he served four years. He was afterward stationed at Madison Barracks, N.Y., Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Whipple Barracks, Arizona, and Waco, Texas, where he remained until the beginning of the Spanish American war. Then he was ordered to Porta Rico. While at Waco he was instructor of military science and head of the Mathematical Department of Baylor, University.
Returning to the States, after two years service in Porto Rico, he was sent to the Philippines, where he was promoted to the rank of Major of the Twenty-seventh infantry, having attained the rank of first lieutenant in 1886 and captain in 1897. His next station after his service in the Philippines was at Indianapolis where he served as recruiting officer for two years, then was sent to Cuba and back to Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and in 1907 retired under the thirty years continuous service law, since which time he has resided in Bloomfield.
He was married September 12, 1882, to Emma GAINEY, daughter of William W. and Eliza GAINEY, of Bloomfield. To this union were born three children, Robert A., who is now First Lieutenant, Twenty-seventh Infantry, stationed at Texas City, Texas, Jessie, who is the wife of Captain A. W. BROWN of the Twenty-seventh Infantry, Nathaniel W., of this place who is a member of the Indiana National Guards, Battery A.
Major EMERY was a descendant of a family of soldiers; his father and his father’s brothers having served their country in the Civil war. His great-grandfather, Ambrose EMERY, served in the Revolutionary war, and his great grandmother often distributed rations to General WASHINGTON and his staff. His ancestry can be traced to the sixteenth century and all have been well known in their respective localities.
As a soldier he served his country faithfully, never wavering in the discharge of his duties, and throughout his military career was a brave and gallant soldier and an efficient and popular officer.
He was a skillful marksman and was the owner of a number of valuable medals awarded him for marksmanship, winning in 1883 the $100 prize gold medal for the best marksman in the Dept. of Dakota.
As a citizen he was universally esteemed, and while not directly connected with any public enterprise, he was ever interested in and ready to support any movement that would tend to build up the community or benefit his fellowman.
As a man he was of strong personality and strict integrity and his wide experience and extensive travel made him a most interesting companion. He was broad minded, intellectual and cultured, believing in the common brotherhood of man and in practicing the broad principles of humanity as found in the golden rule.
He was a worthy example of a self-made man, whose ambition and determination enabled him to overcome many difficulties in early life and advance steadily until he obtained the object of his desire and gained positions of honor and trust.
He was a sportsman in the best sense of the word and found his greatest pleasure in the pursuit of game.
To his friends he was ever loyal, to his family kind and indulgent.
Bravely he faced dangers and the possibility of instant death in the service of his country. No less bravely did he face and fight the ravages of disease, but when the sadden summons came there were faces of the horrors of death on the battle field, for surrounded by all the comforts of his home and alone with her whom he so tenderly cherished and whose true devotion had shared with him the varied experiences of the soldier’s life, he peacefully fell asleep.
Besides his wife, his children and three grandchildren, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Susan EMERY, of this place, three brothers, Charles and Harvey EMERY, of Taylor Township, Jesse EMERY, of Parsons, Kansas, and a sister, Mrs. Charles RAYBURN, of Seattle, Washington.
Private funeral services were held at the family residence Sunday afternoon conducted by Dr. L. P. MARSHALL, of the Presbyterian church, and the Rev. J. A. SPENCER, of the Christian church. A quartet composed of M. F. PATE, E. R. MASON, G. E. MCCRACKEN, and H. L. DONEY rendered beautiful and appropriate music. Silent tokens of the esteem in which the deceased was held were the many handsome floral offerings, among them being one presented by his own regiment, the Twenty-seventh Infantry U.S.A.
The pall bearers were his brothers, Charles and Harvey EMERY, his nephews, Jonas and Ross EMERY, and brothers-in-law, L. C. GAINEY and Charles WYLIE.
Beneath the stars and stripes the flag he loved so well and followed so gallantly, the remains were laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery.

I'm looking for any information available concerning the Slaughter Cemetery located in Wright Township, Greene Co IN. Information as to last burial, names or even family (last) names. Also possibly number of graves contained there. This cemetery hasn't had a burial in well over 150 years so I realize that historical info may just not be available. Thanks for any help you may have, or could point me towards.
