Charles B. GILLETTE, son of George and Louise GILLETTE, was born June 16, 1857, and departed from this life September 19, 1926, aged sixty-nine-years three months and three days.
He was united in marriage to Artie REED on October 25, 1895. To this union one son, George, was born.
The faithful wife, one dutiful son; one brother, Willard, of Flora, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie HEDRICK, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Emma ANDREWS, living at the old homestead, with a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss. His father and mother, two brothers and two sisters have preceded him to the Great Beyond.
For four years he had been a patient sufferer. Nothing that loving hands could do could stop the ravage of the disease that fastened itself upon him. The Lord said, “It is enough come up higher.”
“Charl,” as he was familiarly known, was at all times a kind and affectionate husband, father and brother, a man whom his neighbors and friends trusted and loved.
Christianity with him was to be lived rather than professed, but on Easter Sunday of last year, he confessed his love for faith in his Savior and was taken into the membership at Hope church. While his health would not permit him to attend church services, eh died praising the Lord for taking him home where suffering is no more.
A precious husband, father, brother and friend has gone from us. The Lord had need of him and called him home.
Lord, grant that an unbroken family may gather around thy throne.
—
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in every way during the sickness and after the death of our kind and beloved husband, father and brother.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and to the funeral directors, Mr. DAVIDSON and son.
Mrs. Chas. GILLETTE, George GILLETTE, Willard GILLETTE, Fannie HEDRICK, Emma ANDREWS.

Mrs. Ella BOYD, daughter of Frederick and Mary HIMEBROOK, was born in Grant Township on April 20, 1862 and passed beyond on September 27, 1926, aged sixty-four years, five months and seven days.
Frederick HIMEBROOK, her father, was born in Germany, coming to America in 1844, when twelve years of age. He settled in Greene County where he remained throughout his life. He took an active part in the organization of Grant Township and was the first trustee of that township.
Mrs. BOYD was the youngest of sIx children. Two brothers, Joseph and Stephen HIMEBROOK; one sister, Mrs. Mary CARPENTER and three half-brothers, John, Daniel and William HARRAH, preceded her in death.
Mrs. BOYD was educated in the schools of Greene County, attending Bloomfield Normal several terms and later taught for five years in the schools of this county.
She united with the Christian church when fourteen years of age, being baptized by Rev. WILLIAMS. She was for many years identified with the congregation of Winters Chapel, and was a faithful and consistent Christian.
She was married to William BOYD on her birthday April 20, 1886, and to them four daughters were born. One daughter, Pearl passed away June 22, 1919.
Mr. and Mrs. BOYD moved to their present home in 1894, where they have engaged in farming. Throughout their forty years of married life, they have worked and planned, side by side, and have reaped abundant success. Mrs. BOYD was a true home maker in the broadest sense of the word. Her sweet, cheerful disposition and her sunny smile endeared her to all who came in touch with her life. All who knew her feel a personal loss in her passing and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of a host of friends.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Mrs. Faith BLAKER, of Lyons; Margareith, who is at home with her parents, and Helen, a teacher in the schools of Michigan City. She leaves four grandchildren, Paul, Virgil, Carl and Christina BAKER. One sister, Mrs. Rebecca HALE, and one brother Marshall HIMEBROOK, also survive her.
The funeral services were held at two o’clock Thursday afternoon September 29, 1926, conducted by Rev. BROWN, pastor of the Christian Church at Lyons. Interment was at Switz City.

When Sarah Ollie Price married Delaney White in Owen Co. (1893) the marriage
application states Sarah's parents are Thomas B. Price and Lydia Clawson. On
the 1880 census I find Thomas Price listed head of house, Lydia wife and Sarah
age six which means she was born 1874. On rootsweb and talking to others
researching this family I find Thomas B Price 1st wife Lydia Clawson and 2nd wife
Hannah C. Calhoun listed as married 21 Apr 1870. If anyone could shed some
light on this please do. Thank you for any help.

She was born in Martin County, Indiana. She was married to William DOWDEN in 1865. She came with her family to Bloomfield in 1887, where she has since resided. They have five living children as follows: Joseph DOWDEN, Mrs. Sarah FOSTER, Mrs. Lenora MARTIN, Homer DOWDEN, and Francis M. DOWDEN. A son , John F., died about fourteen years ago. There are twenty-two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Messers. Isaac, William and Chris GRAHAM, and one sister, Betsey GRAHAM, also survive her. She had been afflicted for the last twenty-five years and for several months she had rapidly declined. About a week before she went away she was taken suddenly ill and grew worse till the end came.
She had been a member of the Christian church since her youth and had been consistent in her religious life. When she came to Bloomfield she placed her membership in the Christian church here, but on account of ill health she could seldom attend church.
She filled well the place of wife, mother, sister, neighbor and friend.
She frequently expressed herself as perfectly confident concerning the life to come and desired to go home and be at rest.
The funeral services were conducted last Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from her late residence by J. A. SPENCER, her pastor, in the presence of a very large audience of relatives and friends. There interment was in Grandview Cemetery.

We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a
clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at
http://www.poorhousestory.com <http://www.poorhousestory.com/> .
We have just published the list of residents from the Greene County
poorhouse from the 1860 Census
DIRECTIONS:
At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on INDIANA
on the table of states. If you have been to the website recently you may
have to click REFRESH or RELOAD on the browser to see the new information.
There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting
perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the
HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS (which explains why you might
climb over your own "brick walls" at the poorhouse) as well as FEATURED
ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for
yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our
(almost) bi-monthly newsletter (which you can do in the lower right corner
of the homepage).
The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of
generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me . please do so off-list
because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages
on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.)
We hope you enjoy the site!
Thanks,
Linda Crannell
