THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, October 19, 1933,Volume LVII, Number 51, Page , Columns 1 & 2, “DEATH’S HARVEST.” [Transcribed February 24, 2004 from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
Howard COBB, the eldest child of Samuel and Mary A. (HATFIELD) COBB, was born on a farm near Fayetteville, in Lawrence County, Indiana on January 11, 1858, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. John W. BRANDON, at Bloomfield on October 15, 1933, at the age of 75 years, nine months and 4 days.
At an early age he moved with his parents to Owensburg where he spent is boyhood. In early manhood he was married to Celia MITCHELL, of Koleen, Indiana, where he lived for several years and was employed by the B & B Railroad Company. To this union were born three children, only one of which survives, Mrs. Grace BURGE, of Sullivan, Indiana.
After the death of his wife he moved to Arkansas, where he was employed for many years in the timber business, but about twenty years ago he returned to Indiana where he wished to spend the remainder of his life. This life was not so long in point of years but had a wealth of experience. Having lost his father at the age of ten., Howard faced the responsibilities of helping his mother provide for four other brothers and sisters, thus developing the high traits of character which round out and complete a life.
No man was more devoted to friends. He was always sympathetic and self-sacrificing, and he possessed that peculiar mixture of something which instinctively drew children to him. He was not educated in terms of colleges yet the school of adversity and broadened his sympathies. He understood humanity and loved people.
He united with the Christian Church at Owensburg in his early manhood and has retained his membership there throughout the years. He has been in declining health for several years but he bore his suffering with patience and Christian fortitude.
In the passing of this one there is the loss of a good father, a kind brother, a neighbor and a friend.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte ROLAND, of Golden Colorado, and Mrs. Alice BRANDON, of Bloomfield; one daughter, Mrs. Grace BURGE, of Sullivan, Indiana; three grandsons, Ronald and Wayne BURGE, of Sullivan and Bryan BURGE, of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Mrs. Mary Hester MONK and Joan BURGE, of Sullivan. A sister, Mrs. Nannie HORTON and a brother, Lovell COBB, preceded him in death several years ago.

Hello, I happen to be part of the Stockrahm family of Greene County IN. I'm one of the grandaughters of Marcella Stockrahm. Though I don't know of any Nelson Stockrahm's as of yet, but I will ask my mother, as she has more information about the family tree then I do.
Hi list,
I do have some Greene Co., IN reference material, Death records, etc. But no cemetery records. Does anyone have cemetery records for Greene Co., IN, 1830-1880 I am looking for anyone surname WILLEY. I know I hate getting requests like that, but there shouldn't be very many in the early time period.
Thanks, Donna

Is it possible that the Nancy Catherine that I'm searching for is your line? We've had her as McNeal but never could find parents for her so I'm wondering about the Mc. Possibly added by someone because she was Scotch? My Nancy C. married Samuel Brasington.
If this matches up, I'd like to know. Christine

I feel like I should be able to help with this because of all the Cooper/Wright links in Jackson Twp, however.............
I searched the 1870 census nationwide with no obvious results.
I checked the rosters of the 43rd, 97th & 145th Indiana Civil War Infantry Regiments. All three had members from Greene County. There is one possibility: Joseph R or K Cooper, Co C, 43rd Inf, rank in: Private, rank out: Musician. No info on where he was from or if he survived.

Judy,
I am not researching or connected to your lines, but here are some links & info that may be helpful:
Greene County Historical Society link: http://home.insightbb.com/~aronham1/index.htm
Greene County Genealogical Society link: http://www.greenecountyin.org/gcgs.htm
Greene County GenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingreene/greenegw.htm
Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library Genealogy Project has a number of vital records indexed by the WPA available: http://www.bloomfield.lib.in.us/project1/
Included in the death index is a Sarah Anthony, d. 1930, age 85. The marriage index has a couple of Anthony possiblilties.
Genealogy.com has a GenForum board for Greene County: http://genforum.genealogy.com/in/greene/
Current Greene County newspaper available online: Linton Daily Citizen: http://www.dailycitizen.com/
Usually the obituaries posted on this board are a good source of info. However, I did a quick check for the Anthony surname and did not find much.
Info on how to get birth & death certificates in Indiana: http://www.state.in.us/isdh/bdcertifs/birth_and_death_certificates.htm
On your question in your other message on this board, the actual marriage record of Henry Anthony & Mattie Brannum should be on LDS microfilm 1317809 [asuming that you have reasonable access to a local LDS Family History Library].
Any other suggestions from anybody else?
Jerry Jacobs
