Only by fairly convincing circumstantial
evidence do I claim to be a great-
granddaughter of Elizabeth McCoy,
who was born in l843, one of the
daughters of Judith Bledsoe McCoy
and Elijah S. McCoy. The McCoys lived
in the Stockton township area.
I have material on the Graves-Bledsoe
lineage of Elizabeth, but have only
some data showing her grandparents
were Samuel and Jane Helm McCoy.
This Elizabeth, if she truly is my
great-grandmother, married Simon
Peter Greenwood of Owen County.

In an effort to try to help determine/confirm the parents & siblings of my ancestor, Lloyd Wright [1814VA-1902IN], I have obtained and summarized the Civil War pension file of Joshua W. Wright [1843OH?-1878IN]. Joshua enlisted and served in Co B, 145th Rgt, Indiana Volunteer Infantry from Greene Co., IN
The National Archives pension file for Joshua contains 45 documents and about 100 pages. I created a summary that includes the date, contents, names and comments/questions for each document. The summary has been posted on the Greene County, IN GenWeb site by Katy Hestand at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingreene/history/military/CivilWar/pensions/jwri...
The surnames included in the summary are noted above.
It is known that Joshua was married to Luvena Padgett and that it was Luvena who applied for the pension as a widow. It has been stated in the past that this Joshua Wright is a brother to Lloyd Wright: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.wright&m=5250
Primarily based on the large difference in birth years, I now suspect that Joshua was a nephew of Lloyd’s.
For those interested in Joshua or any of the surnames, I invite you to look at the pension file summary and my questions/comments. If you have responses or info on these surnames or anything related to the pension file, please feel free to post a reply to this message on the Greene County, IN message board [your reply will then be automatically included in the Greene County mailing list]. If anybody would like a copy of any the documents, please contact me directly.
If you have military record or pension info that pertains to a Greene County, IN ancestor, please consider submitting it to Katy Hestand for posting on the Greene County GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingreene/greenegw.htm
Thanks,
Jerry Jacobs

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Saturday, November 3, 1877,Volume I, Number 45, Page 3, Column 3, “Worthington.” [Transcribed November 17, 2004 from the original newspaper on file in the Recorder of Greene County, Indiana, a digital photo is attached.]
Since my last letter Mr. Samuel FOLSOM, an old and worthy citizen, has died. Thus the fathers are passing away. Mr. F. was a very worthy Christian gentleman and needs to be held in grateful remembrance for his many excellent qualities of head and heart. I have procured the obituary notice read by Mr. WELKER at the funeral services, being assured that many would be pleased to read a more extend notice that the same allusion herein made. He died October 22nd, 1877.
OBITUARY.—Mr. Samuel FOLSOM was born in Groton, New Hampshire, August 4, 1801, and died in Worthington, Indiana, October 22, 1877, being 76 years, 2 months and 18 days old. He came to Indiana and settled in Owen County in 1827, living there until 1850 when he removed to Greene County, where he resided until death. He was married twice, to Mrs. NELSON in 1828 who died in 1840, and to Miss Sophia DAVIS in 1848 and by whom he is still survived. He had been a member of the church for more than fifty years.
He is gone! How mournfully and sadly these words fall upon the ear. Though an old man full of years, yet association with its kindred amenities and fostered the image upon the mind and heart, rendering it difficult to realize the fact of his decease. Yet the boatman with muffled oar has been here and claimed him for another abode and a higher and better mission.
Mr. FOLSOM requires no eulogy here. His life speaks for him. Known for twenty-seven years as a citizen of this county, his life is his best and his worthiest vindication. He was an honest man of the strictest integrity, faithful to every obligation. All he did he did well. All his business interests have been carefully and sedulously attended to. His house was in order. He was as fully ready for the end as seemed possible to become. He was possessed of a strong and robust constitution, enabling him to meet the trying experiences of early life. Beginning poor he had, through industry and economy, placed himself and family in comfortable circumstances. He was a true father and affectionate husband and a pillar in the church. He had been afflicted more or less for many years, suffering greatly at times, yet no murmur ever escaped his lips. In all his late illness he was an anomaly of patience and Christian fortitude. He submitted quietly to every burden, awaiting w!
ith patience the coming of the Master.
It was my privilege to see him often during his illness and I have been repeatedly assured of his readiness to die. He was not a man to say a great deal, yet possessed deep convictions and great hopefulness. He was as the ripe shock of wheat, ready for the garner of God. He tranquilly passed away at 3 p.m. yesterday, (October 22), not a struggle, nor a groan. From a quiet repose his spirit was borne on angel wings to the awaiting mansions above.

Judith: Thanks for replying and for your help. I have from marriage records that Wm. Snider married IRADORA Price 24 Aug 1899.
George is buried near his parents. I have a picture (copy) of his stone. It has his bd and may had dd, but is not visable. The person who sent it to me said it looked like it had been placed there at a later time. Patience was the d/o Levi Gastineau and Rachel Hatfield. You probably have that info. She had several brothers and sisters. It's psble that the dd for George is wrong. I have the Greene Co. books, too and haven't found anything in them to help. Will keep digging and let you know if I find anything. Again, thanks for your help. Norma
