We are descend of the Fes(s)ler family as follows:
Michel Fessler 1776 France - 1814 France
Lawrence Fesler 1809 Alsace - 1890 Martin Co IN
Mary Ann Fesler 1850 Coshocton OH - 1930 Daviess Co
Mary Ann Fesler Heshelman is our ggrandmother.
Jacob Fesler b 1834 Holmes Co OH was s/o above Lawrence.
Jacob m Rebecca Slifer in OH and came to Greene Co IN w/brother Augustin(e) Fesler and sister Mary Ann Fesler Heshelman (in 1880 census Greene Co as Jerimiah Wohelman and Augustin Fesler next to others from Coshocton: Abraham Holt b 1833 Coshoton and Rebecca Serverns. In 1880 Lawrence (Laurance) Fesler was next to his father-in-law J. Granbaugh (Grassbaugh) in Tiverton Twp Coshocton OH.
Rebecca Slifer b Jan 26 1845 OH d August 20 1917 Greene Co Walnut Grove Cem was daughter of Nathaniel slifer a Cherokee Indiana born 1820 PA. She is age 5 in 1850 census with Nathaniel MEREDITH b 1804 VA and Catherine in Tiverton Twp Coshocton OH.
I believe that Jacob and Rebecca Slifer Fesler had a daughter who perhaps married a Shoemaker. A son, James Robert Shoemaker, b 1891 then lived with his grandparents in 1900 census. I realize Jacob Fesler age 72 widower lived w/son James Fesler in 1920 Greene Co IN, but believe this "son" was his grandson.
We are very involved with researching the Fesler family and appreciate any help and suggestions. Sure would like to correspond with a cousin!

Looking for Gentry Cockerham Hodges, married Charlotte Reed--that name could
be spelled dozens of ways-- Gentry came from Surry Co. NC, where and when
did he wed Charlotte?
What was his occupation? How many children did they have? 8-10?
He had 40 acres in NW qt of SE qt of sec 25 in twp 8 of range 5 bot in
1837.. Died 1863 or 1870. Buried in Armstead Owen Cem?
I paid a researcher at one time who named 5 children and earlier death date
and cemetery. Since Gentry was on the 1870 census I think I can discount
the earlier date! When did Charlotte die?
Anyone else researching this family? Really would like more info on
Charlotte Reed.

Levi BRADY married Sarah Ellen JENKINS in Greene Co.No connection, except by me, but then I find my BRUNER Redman in the 1910, and the 1920 census. He is the son of Vardiman BRUNER, and brother to my Ggrandfather Hannibal Armstrong BRUNER ( think he was the last one to die, and it was 1947, some of his brothers dided before he did) from Grayson Co KY. I've found Stoy, Redmans son married there, but don't see Redman, did he die in Greene Co ? I've looked at the WPA Books, but find nothing on Redman, just a couple of his sons.
I also see some VERTREES there also. Hannibal was my Grandmothers father, and she married a VERTREES From Grayson Co then on to Jefferson Co. KY

Hello Fellow Greene County Researchers,
I am researching the COURTY, ELLIS, RICH, and WOODS surnames in Greeen County, IN. My great grandparents, Christian ELLIS and Lorena RICH ELLIS, lived in Gilmore when my grandmother, Pearl ELLIS COURTY, was born on Jul 14, 1908. Pearl's youngest sister Thelma ELLIS WOODS was born in Greene County on Nov 8, 1913. She was adopted by the WOODS family after her mother Lorena died on Nov 30, 1913, just 22 days after Thelma was born.
In particular, I am looking for info on the WOODS family that adopted Thelma ELLIS. They must have moved to Washington State, since this is the residence given for Thelma in her father's obituary on Mar 5, 1932.
Thanks for any info you can provide on Thelma's adopted family or anything on the other surnames listed. Visit my Courty Family Genealogy web page at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ccourty for more info on these surnames, and more.

I am searching for living Salter family members that I may be able to exchange information with. My great great grandfather, James B Salter, was born May 1820 in South Carolina and was married to Orpha Graves in Greene County, Indiana in 1839.
James and Orpha had several children together before she died in 1852.
The Salter family lived in Monroe, Lawrence, Washington, Daviess, and Knox Counties, Indiana before migrating to Illinois (about 1860) and back to Indiana by 1880.
Please, if someone has any information I'd love to compare notes.

The Washington Democrat, Washington, Indiana, Thursday, November 5, 1903, page 3:
"MORTUARY.
Hiram WEATHERS, an old citizen of the marsh, died at his home Tuesday, November 3. The funeral services were held at the old Christian church in Elnora and interment at Slinkard cemetery near Newberry Thursday."
The death record for Hiram Weathers is filed in Daviess County, Indiana and indicates he was buried in Greene County, Indiana, but the cemetery is not named. This branch of my family has always referred to the Newberry cemetery as "Slinkard" cemetery, even though there is another Slinkard cemetery nearby. So, I'm still not sure where Hiram Weathers is buried. He might be at Slinkard. He might be at Newberry. His grave is likely unmarked. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hiram was married first to Cynthia A. SLINKARD (28 Apr 1867) and second to Rebacha Adline GAITHER (9 Apr 1880).
