THE BLOOMFIELD DEMOCRAT, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 19, 1903,Volume XXXV, Number 3, Page 2, Column 4, “OBITUARY. Branstetter ” [Transcribed August 29, 2003 from the original newspaper on file in the office of the Recorder of Greene County, Court House, Bloomfield, Indiana. The book containing this obituary is in very poor condition.]
Michael BRANSTETTER was born near Baltimore, Maryland, April 16, 1813, departed this life March 3, 1903. Age 89 years, 10 months and 17 days. He spent his boyhood days there until 1826, when he with his parents emigrated to Wayne County, Ohio. There he was united in marriage to Catherine MUTERSPAUGH in 1837. To this union was born three children, Daniel and William, deceased, and Andrew, of Wooster, {Wayne County,} Ohio, who survives.
On July 7, 1843, he suffered the loss of his first wife. On July 18, 1844, he was again married, this time to Susannah SOLIDAY, of Wayne County, Ohio. To this union was born eight children, two of whom died in infancy, and Jacob who died in 1863, at the age of nineteen years. Those who survive are Mrs. Thomas AXE, Mrs. David MYERS and Henry BRANSTETTER, all of whom reside near Bloomfield; Mrs. John QUACKENBUSH, of Shelburn, Indiana, and Martin BRANSTETTER, of Woodland, Washington.
In 1846 deceased emigrated from Ohio to Brown County, Indiana, where they lived until 1848, when he came to Greene County, Indiana, and purchased a farm on which he resided until his death.
Last wife deceased departed this life June 13, 1898. Deceased was christened during childhood in Maryland, but never became a member of any Church. He was a constant Bible reader, a staunch advocate of the Golden Rule, honest and respectful toward his fellow men and approved only of the things which he conscientiously believed to be right. Although for the past year he had been in feeble health, his death came suddenly and unexpected. He leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his departure, who will ever bear upon memory’s page his worth as a kind husband, indulgent parent and true friend. Those who knew him best will forget his few faults and ever remember his many virtues.
The funeral services were held at the Church of God at Tulip, March 5, where a vast number of sad hearted and sympathizing friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. John S. WALLS, of Troy Grove, Illinois, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Cross Roads Bethel Cemetery.
Those in attendance from a distance were his son, Andrew BRANSTETTER, of Wooster, Ohio, granddaughter, Alice BRANSTETTER, of Indianapolis, and daughter, Mrs. John QUACKENBUSH, of Shelburn, IN. F.

Hi, Jon. Yes there is a connection. Polly Neill (Neale) who married Robert McCain was the sister of my great-great grandfather, Daniel Neill. Daniel b. 1839 Greene Co IN, I think Polly was older than he. Daniel married Amanda Jane George 1851, Greene Co IN and he died 1874 in Mississippi Co MO.
So if all holds true that we believe, you and I are cousins somewhat removed. James and Dorcas (Hopper) Neill are our common grandparents. I am so happy to have found another Neill descendant cousin!!!
I have found Robert and Mary/Polly McCain in the 1860 census of Lawrence Co IN and in 1880 in Greene Co IN, but don't find your John William among their children. Perhaps he was already married by 1860 or wasn't born until after 1860?
I have been unable to locate them in 1840 (they married 1836 in Greene Co IN), nor in 1850 or 1870. Do you have the census records for them those years? I don't have much information on the McCain's, I've only recently started looking into the line as I wanted to know what happened to all James and Dorcas' children and hoped to find some living descendants.
I'd like to know something about your family, if you have information about Robert and Mary, or John William and his wife -- could I hope you have pictures of some of the ancestors? I have zilch for my Neill line, only one pitiful photo of my grandfather Neill. I'll be pleased with whatever you wish to share.
If you want you may email me at my personal mail:

Happy to hear from you, Jon. Regards, Linda

I would like to thank everyone for their replies. I am setting up a page for the USGenWeb Greene County site combining the information that is sent to me, complete with sources of where information is found.
I am hoping that we can get help in the restoration of the cemetery, that is the reason for my query as to who owns the land. The space of our loved ones should be protected and I think a fence around the cemeteries would be appropriate.
After all, how would you like it if you had passed and had some cow walking on you?
Your opinions, everybody?

The Warren Cemetery Association has had one stone of my 3rd Great Grandfather repaired twice. The first time it was in two pieces and I had the local monument company epoxy it together and it looked fine until a bump with a lawnmower left it again in two pieces.
The second time we had C&C Welding, located here in Bloomfield, make a heavy guage welded enclosed aluminum frame for it with a brace across the back side where the original break had occurred. I feel this will allow the stone to stand another 150 years as he was buried in 1855. You may take a look at the stone of William WARREN, SR at the following URL which contains a photo of the cemetery and individual monuments: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292769301

I am trying to find out the name of the following cemetery. It is located on Baseline Road and 1000 North in Jefferson Township. There are only a few stones left standing and cattle tramp thru it, it is in major need of repair.
Do any of you know what it was/is called and who presently owns the land?
Katy
I don't know. I have been to the cemeteries at Worthington and can't find
the stone of Caleb Jessup. It was about 15 years or so ago. Also I have been
searching for the stone of Franklin Jessup. I could not find that cemetery
at all. The people at the library were wonderful and so helpful. But I think
trying to find someone to repair any stone is a tough question. I hope you
find someone.

Hi Celtic Lady, the Mary Ann McCain in my tree is the daughter of John William McCain and Elizabeth Frances Wilson. No match there but, the father of John William McCain is a Robert McCain married to Poly Neal. Maybe there is a connection somewhere in here.

Looking for information about Columbus O. Turley. He is listed as the step son of John G. Barge in the 1880 census. John married Malinda J. (Bullock) Turley. Columbus is listed as age 11 in this census. Any information would be appreciated.
