My dates are only approximate, but my grandmother's (Nellie Oddessa Craft)
first husband, Harley Nickless died on June 8, 1905 in a mining accident in
Newberry, Cass, Greene, In. and is buried in Newberry Cemetery. My
grandmother married my grandfather (Warren Ray Wheatland) in Colorado on
July 3, 1911, so, at some point in those 6 years there was a migration west.
. My great-grandparents (Benjamin Franklin Craft and Cynthia King Close
Craft) also made the trek to Colorado as did Nellie's half-sister from
Cynthia's first marriage to William Pebbles, Hattie D. and her husband John
Fitch Timme. The Timmes brought with them their children Horace, Frank,
Ida, Millard and William. It is here that I can actually make an educated
guess about the arrival of this family based on the birth records of Lucille
Timme who was born in 1908 in Colorado. I have no idea what drew this part
of the family to Colorado. Cynthia had 3 other children by Mr. Pebbles that
stayed in Indiana and Benjamin and 3 children by Elizabeth Miller who stayed
in Indiana. So this small contingency set out for the west for some unknown
reason. Unfortunately, my grandmother only lived until January 1918. My
mother was three when she died so never really knew her. Her grandfather
was already dead and her grandmother died in 1928. I'm afraid that this
side of her family was lost to her and since I lost my mom when I was in my
20s it has been quite a challenge for me to track the
Craft/Close/Pebbles/Millers/Hindman/Timme/Slinkard families down. Any help
would be appreciated. I'd really like to correspond with direct descendents.

Would appreciate any information on John R. Radabaugh/Radebaugh born about 1866. In Bloomfield, Greene Co., Indiana in 1896.

Okay, Colleen, I subscribe to several list and only one is really
active. This is a good way to get some of the lurkers out there to
become contributors to the list. That's the only way it will assist
folks with their research. Another method is to have a roll call where
everyone tells a little of who they are and who they are looking for.
To talk about travel I am inspired to learn that my ancestors did indeed
travel a great deal. I am sharing excepts from a Linton, IN newspaper
article telling of the celebration of Nancy Helen (Mayfield) Tincher's
100th birthday. I have a copy of the article and have included portions
herewith. I also have a photo of the old lady at 100 years old.
When 10 years of age she, with her parents moved from Tennessee to
Indiana. They made the journey in a two wheel cart over the mountain's
drawn by an ox team. They settled in Sullivan County. Here they
remained several years until the failing health of her mother made a
change of location desirable, so they returned to Shelby County Kentucky,
where her mother could take treatment from an Indian doctor.
After remaining in Kentucky for a time the family again decided to return
to Indiana, settling this time in Greene County.
Mrs. Tincher said she had been quite a traveler. She had crossed the Ohio
River five times. Had visited Louisville, New Albany and Jeffersonville,
where she visited the state prison. She said with a twinkle of her eyes
that she was not sent to prison but merely went to see the place., She
never rode on a railroad train in her life, but had rode in a two wheel
cart, drawn by oxen, buggies and automobiles. When asked if she would
rather ride in a two wheel cart or an automobile she said, "When you ride
in a cart you can stop along the road without much inconvenience."
She told of the first dinner given in her honor in Linton by the school
children over forty years ago and she was very anxious that the school
children should attend the dinner on Monday.
Today she will go to the home of her nephew, Joe Goodman (my Great
Grandfather) where she will remain until Monday when she will be taken to
the Methodist Church where the dinner will be served. Dr. Pitkin, Dr.
Thomas and other members of the M. E. Church will hold a prayer service
in her honor.

Hi everyone,
Okay, you've had several months off while I've been socializing with my
inlife relatives and getting my daughter married. Let's see if you're
ready for THIS challenge...
The warmer months are also the months people make moves. I know our
immigrant ancestors didn't move only during the warmer months, though
I'm sure they'd wished they had or could have.
1. This challenge is for you to tell us about your immigrant ancestors.
Keep in mind who this discussion group is all about! We don't want ALL
your immigrants, just the ones that apply to us.
2. IF you're unable to discuss your immigrant because you haven't found
him/her yet (neither have I), then tell us about the major moves that
your ancestors made in country - those who took to the trail.
How's that? :)

I have looked at some of the earlier marriage records & have not found any parents names included. I think they were recorded starting about 1881 or 1882 in Greene Co. Anybody know differently?
I did a quick check on the 1850 Greene County census & there are 2 Mary Andrews that are possible [Mary Andrews, age 8 & Mary E. Andrews, age 7]. I can post the info if you would like.
There are no Joslin's in the 1850 census.
I did find Johiel & Mary in Clay county in 1860. Do you need that info?

This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.

FRANK YOHO is a merchant and business man of long and successful experience in Greene County. His home is at Solsberry. Greetings Listers,
Does anyone know off hand if the Methodist Church in Worthington has any records that date from the 1850s?
As a previous poster stated, the church is mentioned in the Greene County History and so too are the Archers-- as well as some others-- as having been members of the congregation. I wonder how to find info on that.
Thanks!

According to the "History of Greene County 1885-1989", there have been Methodist services in the Worthington area since about 1833. A Methodist church was built in Worthington in 1857 and a newer one in 1900 that is still active. The name is Folsom United Methodist Church, 8 N, Lafayette St., Worthington, phone: 812-875-2126.
I have Robert T. Edwards and Mattie Bynum in my Edwards line --
Peggy, have I emailed you before?
Question: What was Isaac Bynum's wife's name? I just have Mary A.
When was Isaac born? where? when/where did he die?
What about his wife?
Would you or anyone on this forum know anything about Robert T. Edwards'
father, Elias Edwards-- when and where did he die, that is a big mystery for
me right now....
Thanks for your help.

p.s.: I would be interested in any pictures -- however, if you're the one,

He died in 1905 and is buried there at Calvertville. I have such an empty space in my genealogy for a son of his. My great grandfather was John Wesley Cooper, Jacob's son. John had a son, Virgil Horace Cooper, who was born in Jun of 1881. Since my grandfather Virgil was very close mouthed about his family and so....I don't know who my great grandmother was. There is no paper trail that I can seem to follow. Any help would be appreciated. John Wesley Cooper IS buried in Cloud County, Kansas. He died in 1922. Help, Help, Help.
