Thanks so much, they're who I was looking for
Saundra,
Sorry, I don't have either Eliza Hardesty or Charles Gore Hays in my
Hardesty or Hays/Hayes data.
I did find a marriage listed in the Coshocton marriage index for Elizabeth
Hardesty & Charles Hays on March 7, 1838.
For possibilities for Charles Hays parents, I checked the 1820 Ohio census
for Hays/Hayes and found:
Coshocton Co., Washington Twp.:
Jeremiah Hayes
males 0-10: 3
males 26-45: 1
females 0-10: 3
females 10-16: 1
females 26-45: 1
Coshocton Co., Newcastle Twp.:
Abraham Hays
males 26-45: 1
females 0-10: 1
females 26-45: 1

Just to add some information to the above message
S.P. Fankboner was "Stewart Parker Fankboner" and he commonly went by "S. Parker" or just "Parker". He was born in Grant Co IN in 1851 to John Fankboner and Mary Gaskell.
His first wife died in 1915 -and in 1917 (Nov 4) he remarried to Rella May Page (d/o Jesse Ashcraft Page and Elivra Otney Strauser)
*1917, November 4. Rella Mae Page married Parker Frankboner in Greene County, IN ["Index to Marriage Records Greene County 1821-1920", compiled by Indiana Works Progress Administration, Vol III (N-Z), page 34, Source 11-525.]
They were living in
*1920 Federal Census (Soundex F-521) Vol 46, E.d. 96, Sheet 5, line 48; Sandborn, Knox Co., IN:
S.P. Fankboner, white, male, age 68, bp IN;
Rella, wife, age 35, bp IN.
I am not sure what happened to Parker (ie divorce/seperation/death,etc) but Rella later married a Clarence Westmoreland
I would like to learn more about S. Parker Fankboner if anyone has anything else to add.

>From everything I can find, I think it's safe to conclude that my ancestor, Garrett Logan, was captured at Marks Mill and taken to Camp Ford. He was in Company D of the 43rd Indiana Infantry Regiment.
His brother, Eli Logan, was also in Company C and Company D, but was not captured as far as we know. Both brothers were from Vigo County, not Greene County. We have a letter that refers to Garrett returning from Tyler Texas in May 1865 to the barracks at Indianapolis after he was released.
I have contacted the Camp Ford site administrator to ask that Garrett be included on their list of prisoners, I haven't received a reply.
I haven't been able to find a roster of prisoners taken at Marks Mill, and I was wondering if you had run across anything?
Thanks, Doug

Doug,
My grandfather's unit was at Little Rock when the march for Mark's Mill was commenced. He was captured at the Battle of Marks Mill, Arkansas along with 2,000 other federal troops in April 1864 They were taken to Camp Ford Prison in Smith County, Texas. He also was exchanged 1865 at Red River Landing, Louisiana . If you suspect they may have transferred your ancestor to Camp Ford, you can check the data base of prisoners at www.campford.org. The picture they are selling to raise funding for the historical site is well worth the fee.

Rose,
Thanks for some great research and information.
My relative, Garrett Logan, served in Company D 43rd Indiana according to his service record.
We know from information in our family archive that he was captured and according to that information he was taken to Marshall Texas. There is no prison at Marshall, but there was one at Camp Ford in Tyler Texas, which is some miles to the west of Marshall.
Eli Logan, Garrett's brother, served in both Company C and Company D. He was not captured as best we know.
I've copied below the information about Garrett and his capture in case anyone can use it.
Garrett W. Logan: " His father was David Logan, and his mother was Elizabeth McFerron, whom I know very little about. I beleive there were four boys and three girls in the family. The boys were all in the Civil War. Eli and Garrett were the youngest sons and entered the war together in Company D, 43rd Indiana, Volunteer Infantry. I have his
Civil War papers from Washington, D.C. After his frist stint was over, he rejoined, but was taken prisioner in May, 1863, at Little Rock Arkansas, and was take to Marshall, Texas. They took everything away from them, but at least it made marching the 500 miles easier. They were exchanged exactly a year later at the mouth of the Red river.
October 12, 1861 to June 24, 1865 were his dates of service."

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, February 6, 1880,Volume IV, Number 6, Page 3, Column 4 & 5, “SCOTLAND. Correspondence To The News.” [Transcribed May 21, 2003 from the original newspaper on file in the Office of The Recorder of Greene County, Courthouse, Bloomfield, Indiana.]
EDITOR NEWS:—Will you give space in your excellent paper for a little sketch of Taylor Township’s oldest man.
Asa CROOKE is an Octogenarian. His father, John CROOKE, was born in 1766 on the north branch of the Potomac, Virginia, and was a teamster in the Revolutionary War. Asa was born in Madison County, Kentucky, in 1801. He moved to Lawrence County, Indiana, in 1814, and settled in “Possum” Hollow near the little town of Springville. He there found his help mate, Elizabeth ELLISON. They were married in 1822. he moved from Springville to Lewisville, Henry County, Indiana. He was a proficient carpenter and while at Lewisville he would at times have five or six men in his employ, and it was there he received the appellation of “Boss.” We may truthfully say he built the town of Lewisville, or all there was built of it at the time he left it. He moved from Lewisville to Ogden in the same county; was there a few years, and moved to this place in 1840 and has resided here ever since—a period of forty years. For the last ten or fifteen year!
s he has followed gardening. His first vote was cast for Jackson. He afterwards voted the Whig ticket until the death of the party, and has since voted the Republican ticket. He has newspapers on file that were printed fifty years ago. He has a register of the weather which he has kept for thirty years, and any one wishing to what kind of weather there was ten years ago can learn by calling on him. He has raised nine children, eight are now living. The oldest daughter, Louisa, married John P. GAINEY, of Springville. After Mr. GAINEY’s death she moved to Bloomfield and is now living with her daughter, Mrs. Doctor GRAY. A. B CROOKE, who was before the people of Greene County in 1876 for the nomination of recorder, is his oldest son. He resides here and is a skillful undertaker. The next daughter, Miranda, married John SUMMERVILLE, who resides here and is one among our wealthiest farmers. Elvira married the Rev. Calvin ALLEN, a Methodist Minister, who is now !
a Presiding Elder in a Missouri conference. John R. the next son, was a soldier in the late war, in the 97th Regiment Company A. He volunteered in 1861 and died at Holly Springs, in 1863. Urbana married Mr. John HAIG, one of the leading business men of our town. George, the youngest son, is now a resident of Newberry. He is also a proficient mechanic. Martha was married to Wm. CATRON, and although their honeymoon was spent penniless, he is at present the wealthiest man in the township.
Caroline, the youngest daughter, was first married to a Dr. MOORE, who is now dead. She remained a widow for several years, but recently married to Louis, a very excelled gentleman of Bicknell, Knox County.
“Boss,” as he is commonly known has nine children, forty-eight grandchildren. He has lived in the town forty years; was postmaster several years. He is a historian and mathematician. He has no enemies, is always jovial, and his family is highly respected by all who knew them, and especially by

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, July 7, 1932,Volume LVI, Number 36, Page 6, Column 2, “DEATH’S HARVEST--STONE” [Transcribed May 20, 2003 from the original newspaper on file in the Office of The Recorder of Greene County, Court House, Bloomfield, Indiana.]
Daisy Ozeta (ALLEN) STONE, born at Linton, Indiana, December 28, 1903, the daughter of Richard H. and Jessie M. ALLEN. Departed this life at 6 p.m. July 5, 1932 at South Bend, Indiana. She was therefore twenty-eight years. Six months and seven days of age.
She was reared in the city of Linton, attended its schools and was baptized in the M. E. church when but a small child.
On October 2, 1926, she was united in marriage with Earl G. STONE, of Bloomfield, Indiana, and they have since that time made their home in Fort Wayne and South Bend, Indiana. To this union two sons were born, Earl G. STONE, JR., age four, and Robert Allen STONE, who was born and died the day of his mother’s death and whose body accompanied hers to the grave.
She leaves to mourn her passing, besides the husband and son, her father, mother and three brothers, namely: James D. ALLEN, Clifton ALLEN and Harold E. ALLEN.
Daisy, or Betty, as she was known to intimate friends, was a kind and loyal friend to all who knew her. She was of a pleasant disposition and these friends were numerous. She was an obedient and loving daughter, mother, sister and wife and her passing leaves a vacant place in the hearts of all her loved ones that can never be filled. It being God’s will, naught else can be done but to abide by His word.
A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is stilled, a place is vacant in our home which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled the boon his love had given and though the body slumbers here, the soul is safe in heaven.
