This is the morning to ask dumb questions as I can hardly see. Is the 1820 census on line? Address of the court clerk? If the census is not on line I would like the reading for the Dougherty men and the number of daughters and their ages for the 1820 census and the 1830 census. Thanking you so very much. {each new batch of papers causes a new line of attack} Mary Lou

The wife of J. T. BARNES died as the new year was being ushered in. She was a long and patient sufferer, never complaining of her infirmities. She said she was only waiting for the summons to come. She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn the loss of a loving mother, a lasting friend and a safe adviser. May this very sad visitation only increase the ties that bind this family together; that when that great day of accounts shall come it shall be a happy reunion of husband, children and mother.

The death of Johnson H. FITZPATRICK at Switz City on Sunday of last week removed from that community one of its best citizens and oldest members of the I. O. O. F. fraternity.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Switz City Tuesday, October 5, conducted by the Rev. Allen KENWORTHY, a pastor of the M. E. church, beloved by the deceased. The I. O. O. F. and G. A. R., of which he was also a member, assisted in the last sad rites.
The deceased was born in Monroe County, near Bloomington, June 26, 1840, therefore, he was aged sixty-nine years, three months and seven days at the time of his death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Dyer RODDICK on August 19, 1863, at to this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters. A son and daughter died in infancy and he leaves to mourn his death the faithful wife and one daughter, Mrs. Ida BOVENSCHEN, of Switz City, and one Ziba FITZPATRICK, of this place. He also leaves a sister and brother and a host of relatives and friends who knew him only to love and respect him.
Whenever and wherever duty called, he was always present.
At the death of his father he was a mere boy but with the love of a true son eh was ever faithful to his mother in helping to care for his younger brothers and sisters at home.
He united with the M. E. church in early manhood and he has been connected with that church ever since.
He was corporal of COMPANY K, 53RD REGIMENT INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY in the Civil War.
He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Elk Falls, Kansas, in 1872 but afterward moved to Bicknell, Indiana, where he was a charter member of a new Odd Fellows lodge.
He was a kind, considerate and loving husband and father, and was always liberal and charitable toward the poor and needy. His suffering had been severe for the past ten months, through all of which he was cheerful, waiting until the last roll would be called, which came early Sunday morning, October 3, when his sprit took its flight to sing psalms with the blessed farewell.

We desire to thank the friends and neighbors and the members of the I. O. O. F., for their many acts of kindness during the last illness and burial of our dear husband and father, J. H. FITZPATRICK.

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, December 23, 1909,Volume XXXIV, Number 6, Page 4, Columns 2 & 3, “PIONEER WOMAN GONE. Mrs. Sarah FULK, Widow of the Late Rev. M. C. FULK, Passes Beyond. ” [Transcribed February 25, 2003 from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
Sarah LONG was born in Surrey County, North Carolina, April 19, 1822. She came to eastern Greene County with her father, Tobias LONG in 1830 while Indiana was largely a wilderness. She was one of a family of fourteen children. Her mother died leaving this large family. The father remarried and to this union four children were born.
To support this family it was necessary that each child should learn to work. So the subject of this sketch learned the use of the wheel and loom.
She was converted early in life and joined the Baptist church. She was married January 11, 1846 to Martin C. FULK. The husband soon after his marriage entered the ministry, which calling he followed faithfully for more than fifty years. This ministry was given without remuneration from the church he served, and the hardships entailed on this faithful wife on that account, only our Heavenly Father knows. But she never faltered or complained. Believing that God had consecrated her husband to the work of the ministry she threw her great strength of body and mind into his tasks and was faithful to the end. Volumes might be written on the trials and triumphs of this true wife and mother.
She was the mother of nine children—four of whom preceded her to the great beyond. “Two died while the husband was away on his ministry. Her husband died in 1901, so that it is eight years she has suffered the loneliness of widowhood.
She passed peacefully to her rest at five minutes past two on Friday afternoon, December 17, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ari fields, about one mile east of Bloomfield. She was taken sick on Sunday and passed away the following Friday.
Faithfulness as wife, devotion as mother, sincerity and service as neighbor and relative and earnestness and loyalty as Christian were ruling graces and virtues in her life. She sang in glorious and anticipating music and joys of the heavenly home till the good Father lifted the curtain and admitted her to the choir of the redeemed with him.
She is survived by Rev. P. H. FAULK, Bloomfield; Rev. J. D. FAULK, Rantoul, Illinois; Mrs. John M. CARMICHAEL, near Park; Mrs. Ari FIELDS, Bloomfield; and Mrs. William CLEMENS, Rantoul, Illinois. There are twenty living grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Short services were conducted at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ari FIELDS, and the funeral sermon was preached at Walnut Grove Church and the remains were buried in the church cemetery last Saturday. Elder J. A. SPENCER conducted the services.

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, January 13, 1910,Volume XXXIV, Number 9, Page 4, Columns 2, 3 & 4, “PASSING OF AN EXEMPLARY MAN. JOHN JONES BALLARD. ” [Transcribed February 25, 2003 from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
John Jones BALLARD was born December 2, 1841, on “The Old Home” farm in Highland Township, Greene County, near the present site of Calvertville. On December 30, 1909, he was stricken with apoplexy and died at noon the following day.
His parents, who were themselves descended from families of note, were Benjamin C. BALLARD and Catharine (STALCUP) BALLARD.
He attended the common schools of his community, the schools of Point Commerce and entered Franklin College in 1873, from which he graduated in 1876.
Mr. BALLARD was married to Miss Florence OWEN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. OWEN, February 3, 1898. To them were born two children, Florence Elizabeth, April 16, 1900, and Wayne Owen, January 22, 1904.
Mr. BALLARD was an elder in the Christian church, was an active official in general Sunday-school work for ten years time; always in the temperance cause. He was a Republican in political affiliation, but not a partisan.
His wife and children, sisters, Mrs. Susan STALCUP, Mrs. M. J. HOWE, of Worthington, and Mrs. E. B. WYLIE, of Topeka, Kansas, and other relatives and a host of friends survive him.
Mr. BALLARD owned the old home place near Calvertville and a tract of land on which his beautiful new home is located, adjoining Worthington. He was a successful farmer, but this was not his distinguishing feature.
He was thoroughly Christian in spirit, speech and deed. With very delicate health all his life he was never known to lose his self-control. One of the illusions things told of the great English Gladstone was of his ministering spiritual comfort to a poor, afflicted street sweeper. In time of sickness or severe weather, Mr. BALLARD hunted up the afflicted and the needy, and those threatened with death’s coming, and administered to their wants. His conscience weighed the vast responsibilities of life, but also took notice of the little things that are just and honest and true. And his heart was like his conscience, felt the weight of the world’s wickedness and woe; and also suffered through sympathy with any fellow mortal’s momentary pain or inconvenience. Facts illustrating these traits might be given at any length. His life was a sermon; not in words, but in deeds. Parity, right love, gentleness, charity, expressed in person and act, “A!
n ideal man, a perfect man,” said a man of the world, a keen observer. He imitated the Master beautifully in that “he went about doing good.” Among those whom the writer has hear praise Mr. BALLARD’s moral work unstintedly are ex-President STOTT, D. D., Mr. BALLARD’s intimate friends, and Mr. BALLARD’s irreligious neighbors. To know him was to respect him; to know him well was to love him. In a world of sin and selfishness, suffering and sorrow, he gave us the Gospel translated into a life of uprightness, service and sweetness of spirit.
On Sunday, January 1, 1910 at 2 p.m. a vast concourse filled his late home, and the yard about it. Mr. BALLARD’s pastor, Rev. D. C. WAKEMAN read the scriptures and led in prayer; four young men sang beautifully, and Mr. BALLARD’s life long friend, Pastor N. C. SMITH, of Bicknell, Indian told how the deceased had lived soberly, righteously and godly in this present world, always looking for the great hope and glorious appearing of God, and the Savior at the last day—Titus 2:11, 14.

Randy, Thomas & Polly Ozburn did not have a daughter named Mary or "Polly" to my knowledge. However, two of their sons, Jesse L. and Nicholas W., had daughters so named. Jesse's daughter, Polly, was born around 1840 and it is believed that she married John W. Turley in Greene Co., IN on 21 Feb 1861. Nicholas's daughter, Mary E., was born about 10 years later in 1850, and may have married Benjamin G. William in Greene Co., IN on 29 Jul 1869. Do either of these ladies fit your ancestor?
