I would also be interested in the answer to this. My dead end is Richard (aka Ace, Acey, Asa, Asahel) WEAVER. He married Lydia Ann NEWTON in Greene Co in 1885 and was dead by 1894 (1890 Census would sure be nice...). The NEWTONs also lived in Beech Creek Twp., so newspaper data on-line would be swell. I know of no such source.

Is Sarah Ann Cooper, the wife of John A. Wright (married in 1853 in Greene Co., Ind.) in your family? I think she was a sister of Brazella Cooper, who married Edward F. Wright. Much of the family moved to Missouri in the 1870s.

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, November 22, 1923, Volume XLVIII, Number 2, Page 8, Column 1, “COUNTY NEWS—PARK—Richland Township.” [Transcribed January 23, 2003 from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
Arja R. BROWN, son of Robert J. and Annie BROWN, was born near Poseyville, {Posey County,} Indiana, January 17, 1880, and died November 14, 1923, aged forty-three years, nine months and twenty-seven days.
In December of 1898 he was married to Flossie HOLLEMAN, of Stewartsville, Indiana, now deceased. To this union was born one daughter, Vernus, whose home is in Florida.
On New Year’s Day, 1911, he was married to Artie F. OLIPHANT, near Merino, Colorado. In October of the same year they came to this neighborhood, their present home. Under the preaching of Rev. Lloyd he was converted about November 1914. A few months later he became, and continued to be, a supporting member of the Church of God at Walnut Grove. For over a year he has been putting up a vigorous fight against the disease, which Wednesday morning won in the conflict. All through these anxious days he has been so patient, and if hopeless of recovery, did not allow the thought to cast gloom over his spirit. Over and over again he expressed a readiness and willingness to go Home.
His daughter, Vernus, a foster daughter, Ruth EVANS, two half-brothers, Grant and Dave ALCORN, of Imboden, Arkansas, and Poseyville, Indiana, respectively; a half-sister, Mrs. John WILSEY, brother, H. L. BROWN and two sisters, Maud and Cora BROWN, all of Poseyville, Indiana, survive.
The funeral services were held at Walnut Grove Thursday afternoon, November 14, conducted by Rev. Harry LETT, pastor of the Christian church of Greenfield, Indiana, a special friend of the family. Interment in Ashcraft Cemetery.

Hi Linda - I'm a cousin to that line. Mary Jane Young was married to William McClellan Sheffler. His father Jacob Sheffler is brother to my gggrandfather Levi Sheffler. I'll point you to a descendancy on Ancestry that you may or may not have seen yet, posted by Bill Zehm. It only has the line of Fred Walter Sheffler but it's pretty comprehensive:
http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=zehmw&id=I23424
May I keep in contact with you as I'm trying to fill out that part of my tree too! Bill lists Jacob Levi Sheffler but I believe it's Jacob Luther Sheffler; His brother is Levi. Also, Mary Jane Young's mother-in-law is listed as Mary Jane Crittle but based on other research I think that's a transcription error from Eritti. Her name should read Errett, but it had been listed by some people as Eritti, and then Crittle.
Take care!

I'm still looking for any info on the death & burial of my g-g-grandmother Mazzie (Stamper) Arthur. Mazzie died in 1870-1872. I'm not sure where she died but I believe it must have been in Greene County or Knox County. She & her husband William Wesley Arthur lived in the 1850's & 1860's in the Solsberry area. In 1870 they were living in the Sandborn area of Knox County. Does anyone know if there were any old newspapers that were printed in those areas in that time period that I might find on microfilm in a county library? Or can I get any info from a cemetery sexton of Solsberry area?

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS,, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, October 2, 1896,Volume XX, Number 4, Page 4, Column 4, “OBITUARY–HIRAM ALLEN.”
Hiram ALLEN was born in Campbell County, Tennessee, January 24, 1821. When about six years old he removed with his father to Rush County, Indiana. His early boyhood was spent there, and when about thirteen or fourteen years old his father removed to Greene County, Indiana. Mr. ALLEN was married in 1841 to Lucinda SPENCER, and lived in Daviess County, Indiana, until after the time of her death, which occurred in 1862. Eight children were born unto them, five of whom are living. He made the confession to unite with the Church of Christ in September 1845, and united with the M. E. church at Scotland in the winter of 1862-‘63.
He was married to Milley O’DONALD, May 12, 1863. This union was blessed with six children, only two of whom, B. L. and A. E. ALLEN, are living. After the death of his second wife, he married Lucinda MITCHELL, and after her death, Elizabeth KENT, who still survives him.
He died September 27, 1896, at his home in Taylor Township, aged seventy-five years, eight months and three days, after a lingering illness of about three weeks of that terrible disease, typhoid fever. He bore his sickness with patience and suffering and passed very peacefully and quietly away. He said the day before he died that he “wanted to go home.”
Mr. ALLEN was a resident of this part of the State for over sixty years and was well known and highly respected by a wide circle of friends. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held on September 28, at Walnut Grove church, Mood Cemetery, and were conducted by Rev. E. M. LOVE, of the Church of God.

Thank You William!
I've been looking for any clue possible regarding Jacob Shanklin and Mary Archer. I just knew that they had to have been in Greene Co IN at some point. I have no marriage record for them and only know of their existance through Mattie (Matilda) Shanklin's death record found at the Greene Co Courthouse. It lists her parents as Jacob Shanklin and Mary Archer. Prior to that I had no knowledge my gg grandfather even had a sister Mary. Now it will be even a more enjoyable hunt.
Thanks too for the Neosho tip. I had an inkling to look there to solve Archer puzzles (missing people, gaps in chronologies etc.) but now another strong reason!
I did a quick search for any Shanklins in the 1830 and 1840 census, nothing at all. I'm sure you are aware of this already
though.... I'll keep my eye open from now on.
Let me know if you would like any of the info I have regarding
Mary Archer Shanklin, Mattie Shanklin etc.
better pick up the kids from school
