This is "a shot in the dark", but I am looking for a Rexie Thompson who could be my great grandfather. My grandmother is Wilma Maxine born May 15, 1928/29 and was not raised by her father and may have never known him. Her mother is Mary Axsom who lived in Monroe County all her life which borders on Greene and Lawrence Counties. This was a very dysfunctional family. Mary worked as a cook at a nearby college or university. I never met her.
My grandma is hard to communicate with and gets paranoid or nervous when we ask her about her natural father. She used the name Thompson on her marriage license and a lady at the Bloomington, IN Social Security office gave us the name Rexie Thompson. Any leads or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Message Board Post:
THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Volume LXXII, No 14, Thursday, February 8, 1947, Page 7, Columns 7 & 8, “OBITUARY—JULIA LATIMER LEAVITT.”
Julia Latimer LEAVITT was born October 30, 1863, and died January 29, 1947, aged 83 years, two months and 29 days.
She was the daughter of Christopher and Viola Francis RANKIN ROSE LEAVITT. She was born in Beech Creek Township, but when she was five years old her father moved his family to Bloomfield, where he was appointed postmaster.
Her grandfather was the Reverend Joseph LEAVITT, of New York State, and due to strict Presbyterian training at home she took an early interest in church work. She united with the Presbyterian Church when eight years old, and her zeal led her to work in Sunday school and Christian Endeavor.
In 1881, although a 17-year-old girl, she went to Osaka, Japan as a missionary for the Cumberland Presbyterians. The inspiration of her choice is shown by the fact that she served in that field for 46 years.
She was not a “preaching” missionary but while living in a Japanese village, speaking her neighbors’ language and following their customs she exemplified by her life the beauties of Christianity and so brought many heathens to believe in Jesus. Most of her time was spent in the city of Tanabe, Kobe, Japan. She wrote recently of the heartbreaking enmity between her two countries.
Miss LEAVITT was retired from the foreign missions in 1927 and returned to this country. She made her home with her two sisters in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. There she lived until a few days before her death when she was taken to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to receive better care, as her life slowly ebbed away.
She faced death, as she had life, with courage and dignity. Firm in her faith, she had no fear.
All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death, but many nieces and nephews survive to claim kinship with her saintly character. She will be laid to rest by the side of her father, not far from two of her brothers, at the place reserved for her by her brother many years ago.

This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.

Hello everyone
I'm new here, feeling my way around...
I'm looking for info on a William H Clark that might have been born in
Greene Co in 1835. I'm not sure of the "H" middle initial but it might stand
for Harvey (as there are other Harveys in our descendants). He moved away
before he was 20 years old as I found his marriage in Fillmore Co.
Minnesota. Wife's name: Susannah McCollum born Apr 1, 1841 in Ind and died
May 20, 1903. Susannah McCollum's parents were Daniel Ford McCollum and
Elizabeth Ann Davis also from Ind.
Any help locating these people will be greatly appreciated
