Linda, Do you think that this 1st wife of John Urban Beck could have been your Lois Young? I am wondering because Mary V might be Mary Viola. What do you think? If it is Lois, then she married at about fifteen. That is young isn't it, even for 1911?
I have posted queries on this family of John Urban Beck and Lois Young on both the Geene County and Sullivan County, Indiana Message Boards. We'll see if anything else turns up. John Urban Beck seems to have been in both counties from time to time.
Have you had any other responses to your Young queries? I have had good results with these Message Boards sometimes, and sometimes I never here anything. I will work on it some more and let me know what you think of this possibilty for Lois Young. Thanks so much for responding to my posting. Ruth RUTHFLACKMCK(a)AOL.COM

Hello, I don't know if I am going to help or add to the confusion. I am seeking information on Lois Young who married John Urban Beck on 11 Aug 1911 in Sullivan County, Indiana. John and Lois lived in Linton, Greene County, Indiana through most of their marriage. Their children were Anna B. Beck born 11 May 1914, Greene County, Indiana; Mary V. Beck born 29 Mar 1917, Sullivan County, Indiana and Ethel Beck who married Clovis Camden. I believe Ethel lived in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. I am seeking parents of Lois and information on her children. At some point Lois Young Beck either died or divorced. On 13 Mar 1933, Sullivan County, Indiana John Urban Beck md for his 2nd wife Tressa "Tressie" McCammon in Sullivan County, Indiana. I wrote the Sullivan County, Indiana courthouse thinking they would have info on Lois on John's marriage application to Tressie as previous marriage information is often asked about.. They said that record was not in the courthouse.
I keep getting dead ends. Do you have any info on my Lois Young Beck? Thanks, Ruth Flack Mcknight RUTHFLACKMCK(a)AOL.COM

This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.

SHELTON D. WILES, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, is a member of the firm of Gillie & Wiles, veterinarians at 428 East Washington Street, Fort Wayne. Doctor Wiles is a World war veteran. He was born in Perry Township, Tipton County, Indiana, June 18, 1884. All his people came from Southern Indiana, Switzerland County. His paternal grandfather and wife, Martha Wiles, settled in that county from South Carolina. His maternal grandfather, William Wright, who married Caroline Holder, was a pioneer of Switzerland County, but spent his last years in Tipton County. Doctor Wiles is a son of Rodis and Margaret (Wright) Wiles. His father, who spent his active life as a farmer, was born in Switzerland County in 1838 and his wife in 1842. He died in Tipton County in 1888 and his wife in Jefferson County, Indiana, in 1913. Four of their children are living. Rodis Wiles was one of the charter members of the Prairieville Masonic Lodge and helped burn the brick for the house, which was the lo!
dge hall. He was a Methodist. Shelton D. Wiles attended school in Tipton County, grew up on a farm there and from boyhood took a great interest in farm and domestic animals. Following that inclination he prepared for a professional career as a veterinarian, graduating from the Indiana Veterinary College at Indianapolis in 1917. In the same year he enlisted as a private and later was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Veterinary Corps. He was assigned to the Nineteenth Veterinary Hospital and was overseas in France on duty nine months. He received his honorable discharge July 1, 1919, and at once engaged in private practice; spending two years at St. Joseph, Indiana, and in 1921 came to Fort Wayne. Here he practiced alone until 1923, when the present firm of Gillie & Wiles was organized. Doctor Wiles is a member of the Indiana State, the Northeastern and National Veterinary Medical Associations. He belongs to the American Legion and is a member of Summit City Ledge, A. F!
. and A. M. On September 11, 1918, he married Miss Lucretia Walls. She was born in Greene County, Indiana, March 11, 1885, daughter of James H. and Jane (Quackenbush) Walls. Her grandparents were George and Minerva Walls, pioneers of Greene County, and her mother was a daughter of Elwood and Nancy Quackenbush, likewise early settlers of Greene County. Mrs. Wiles father, who was a farmer, died in 1919 and her mother in 1917. Doctor and Mrs. Wiles have one daughter, Margaret Jane, born May 2, 1921.

There was a Jesse Byram who was born in Pickens District, SC in the 1780s. He had a son Jesse Jr who moved to Monroe County, TN after the turn of the century. Jesse Jr married Nancy Morgan and they had children who included Elizabeth. The older sister, Margaret J. was my ggrandmother. It may be this is the group you are seeking. I have not at present found them in Greene County but have in Monroe and I believe in Blount Counties. Greene is a good possibility, however.

My 2nd Great Grandfather, William Linderman, came to the US from Prussia in the 1840's and settled in Greene County, Stockton Township. I am familiar with the names Strietlmeier and Schloot, as I grew up in that area. Several German families founded the German Reformed Church in that is now known as Saron United Church of Christ. That church has an archives that may have some information for you. The phone is: (812) 847-4911. Also, the Linton Public Library has some genealogy materials. A few years ago I was in touch with a man named Schloot because there was a connection with the Linderman family. I still have the address.
