Hello List,
A few days ago, I was told about a new online resource for Greene Co. researchers and I'm very excited about it. The Bloomfield Library has been working on a project to get several of the most important sources for information online. I'm talking about indexes to Greene Co. births, deaths & marriages!! Some of you may already know about the Library's compact disks with electronic images of local genealogical books & other sources, many of which are also available in book form at the library, which they made public a few years ago. These indexes have only been online for a very short time, approximately a week or so. Here is the web address to the Library's Genealogy Project page:
http://www.bloomfield.lib.in.us/project1/
There are a couple of things, though, I do need to make you aware of about these indexes. First of all, you will need the program, Adobe Acrobat, in order to view the indexes. There is a link on the page so you can download this program if you don't already have it.
Secondly, I was asked to point out that these indexes, and the records they point to, cannot be changed as far as spelling of names or corrections made regarding dates, places, relationships or other information contained in them. Misspellings often occurred in these earlier times and we must live with the records our ancestors left us, misspellings and all.
I'll be adding a prominent link to the Library's Project page on the Greene Co., INGenWeb site in my next update of it. It will be soon, probably this weekend if the children don't have other plans for me.
Another page I'd like to share with everyone is an awards page for INGenWeb sites. This award was created by a fellow INGenWeb County Coordinator to honor outstanding county websites for providing useful information to researchers. The first Top Ten counties have just been announced and I thought some of you might be interested in visiting. Here is the link to the Top Ten sites for March: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inunknow/PurpleFloppy/purpflop.html
I hope the new indexes will help all of you. This new resource, I know, will be very popular and useful to a lot of us. I know I cannot thank the Library enough for making this available online! And, a big thank you goes to the Greene Co. Health Department, too, for helping to make this possible. The people who have worked so hard on this certainly deserve much appreciation.
Happy Hunting!
Diane :)
Trying to determine the organization represented by the pin worn by the man
in this photo. Photo is ca. 1860. It is pinned to his collar. Photo was
found in my Grandmother Talley's possessions. Appreciate any help.

Does anyone know the location of the Arthur cemetery in Greene County? I was
wondering if it was in Beech Creek Township because of the concentration of
Arthurs in that area.
Appreciate directions if anyone has them.
