Section 3 of T8N, R3W is in the far northern portion of Beech Creek Twp.
in the eastern portion of the Twp. Section 3 is on the border with Owen Co.
The village(?) of McVille is on the southwest corner of Section 3.
Livingston Cemetery is in the far northern portion of Section 3.
The 1879 map for Beech Creek Twp. is hard to read. It shows an A. (W. or M.)
Livingston as the owner of a large piece of property of about 250 acres in
Section 3. The NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 is part of this parcel. The NE 1/4 of
the NE 1/4 is not part of it. I can't read the owners name for that 80 acre
parcel.
Hope this helps.

Pam,
Sorry for the delayed response; I was out of town for a couple of days.
I noted Donn Koenig's post; he is correct.
I also noted Karen Pickett's post on the availabilty of this map; I should
have mentioned this earlier. I should point out that some of the entries are
easy to make out & some are very difficult, but I feel this is still a
worthwhile purchase.
All of the descriptions you posted are in Taylor Twp. in Greene Co. The
property owners in 1879 in Taylor Twp. are:
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sect. 24 in T6N R5W:
G(?)C. & Jas. Blackmore (part of a 280 acre parcel in this section)
SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Sect. 19 in T6N R4W:
F. Hassler (24? acres)
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sect. 30 in T6N R4W:
L. T. Bough (part of 74-1/2 acres)
The similar sections & 1879 property owners in Fairplay Twp. are:
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sect. 24 in T7N R6W:
M. Deubenspect(?) (part of 160 acres)
SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Sect. 19 in T7N R5W:
Margt. Masting (part of 80 acres)
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sect. 30 in T7N R5W:
Margt. Masting (part of 89 acres)
Hope this helps.

Pam,
You asked about the following plots:
>
>NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 24 in Township 6N in range 5W
>SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 19 in Township 6N in range 4 W
>NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 30 in Township 6N in range 4W
The odd thing about land descriptions is that you have to
read them starting from the end of the description rather than
the beginning.
First checking the township and range... The range numbers
differ by one and township numbers are the same so the first
description lies in the township immediately west of the other
two. The numbering of pertinent sections at the edge of
townships is as follows:
range 5w ! range 4w
!
sec 24 ! sec 19
________!___________
!
sec 25 ! sec 30
!
Within a section quarters are described by direction:
NW ! NE
_____!_____
SW ! SE
!
And then each quarter is divided similarly by direction and
the resultant plot is nominally 40 acres.
So each of your land descriptions is a plot of 40 acres (or
possibly less because of correction lines, which can get
complicated so we won't worry about that).
The second and third descriptions are plots that touch each
other on their north/south edges resulting in a rectangular 80
acre plot. The near (SE) corner of the first description lies 3/4
of a mile west and 1/2 of a mile north of the near (NW) corner
of the other two combined plots.

Oliver's brother Jason was the founder of Jasonville, Indiana. Would greatly appreciate any information on them.

Hi ! Mary;
I had Gilson relatives all up and down the West coast, mostly Sacramento
area.
George Gilson was born abt. 1864 probably at Black Creek, Stafford twp,
Greene Co. Indiana, although other family information indicates he was born
at Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the son of John & Edna (Hunter) Gilson. John
was b. 1814 Columbiana Co. Ohio.
John was the son of John Gilson Sr. and Sarah Stephenson of "Sandy Creek"
Columbiana Co. Ohio.
Along with several brothers & sisters, John is listed as a recipient of land
in Columbiana from his fathers will.

Harry,
According to my map, Section 35 in Township 7N & Range 4W is in Center
Township (soutwest corner). The 1879 owner of the SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of
this section 35 is a bit hard to read, but I am reasonably sure it is S. C.
Haywood (probably Stephen Haywood).
The Section 35 just south of Bloomfield is in Range 5W. The landowner of the
SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 in this section is Wm. Mason. He was actually the owner
of 440 contiguous acres of the 640 acres in this section.

Jerry,
You are going to be sorry that you have map skills, I have the following
land which was purchased in 1838. I know this was in Fairplay Township and
the total was about 108 acres.
Could you tell me if these properties connect? Also how do I find out who
brought the land after my Joshua Dover.
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 24 in Township 6N in range 5W
SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 19 in Township 6N in range 4 W
NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 30 in Township 6N in range 4W
Thanks for any time.
:)Pam
Jerry,
Could you be so kind as to tell me who owns in 1879,
SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 35 in Township 7N in range 4 W
NW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 35 in Township 7N in range 4 W
If my map reading skills are OK it should be just south of Bloomfield.
Property homesteaded by my GGGrrandfather, James M Isom.

Thanks for everyone's help! about the land in Taylor twp.
Bogard Creek that runs thru it is probably named for Cornelius Bogard. Don't know anything
about him except that he is mentioned in wills, estates and deeds of my ancestors and lived
close to them.
Glad to know about Simpson Chapel and cemetery being close by. I will need to check the
burials there for my Brazzells.
My William and Sarah Brazzel owned the land and then sold it to a James McKee in 1846.
Haven't found when they purchased it yet.
Thanks to everyone! Karen
From a current Greene County road map, Section 23 - T6N - R5W is in Taylor
Township. It is just south of center in the township and almost to the
western border. Base Road is the western border of S.23 and Highway 231/157
runs north & south through the eastern portion of S.23. The NW 1/4 of the NW
1/4 is in the far northwestern corner of the section; Bogard Creek runs
through a portion of this piece of land.
According to the 1879 Greene Co. atlas, this piece of property was owned by
an H. Cramer.
To my knowledge, neither of these maps are on-line. Some of the info is
available at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingreene/map2.htm Section 23 is
northewest of Scotland.
