THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, September 23, 1920, Volume XLIV, Number 45, Page 1, Columns 4 & 5, “DEATH OF THOS. C. OWEN.” [Transcribed 28 Nov 2001 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.]
After a lingering illness of paralysis, Thomas C. OWEN died at this home in Worthington early Tuesday morning. Sherman BLEVENS had assisted his family to care for him for several years since the deceased became helpless. The funeral will probably occur in Worthington today. He was born in 1852, and since youth was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He was married to Miss Josephine STALCUP on November 10, 1875, and to this union five children, two sons and three daughters, were born. The family is prominent in Worthington and has a large circle of relatives and friends. The deceased was elected auditor of Greene County in 1890 and served four years. He had large farm interests in Highland Township.

Is Bloomfield the county seat of Greene county? My husbands grgrandparents were married in Greene Co. They lived there for about 7 years. Some of their children were born there. I would like to find any documents that exist on them. Their names were Jacob Mansfield and Sarah Maria Clemmons.I would appreciate any information that is available. Thank you. Sharon
Awhile ago, I contacted you regarding John Hogue. You stated he was born
4/27/1842.
I 've sense learned the following while researching my DOVER family.
Polly Dover married James Hogue on 3/29/1839 in Greene County, IN.
Source; 1850 Fairplay Township Greene County, IN
15-396
Hogue James 33 IN
John 10 IN
Nancy J. 2 IN
Source:1860 Census, Greene Co, Fair Play Twp, page 47 (page 473)
dwelling 336 family 347
4 Park Dover 21
5 Angeline Dover 18
6 Joseph Dover 24
7 Richard J Owen 29
8 Elizabeth Owen 25
9 Asbery Dover 24
10 Nancy Dover 21
11 Sarah Ann Dover 2
12 John Hogue 17
I guess I'm wondering if John Hogue was the son of James and Polly Dover.
Polly must have died after 1848 and before 1850. I'm trying to tie Polly
into my DOVER family and it all fits because Elisabeth, Park, Asbery and
Joseph were siblings and here we have John Hogue living with them. I think
he was living with his aunts and uncles from his mother's family.
Also I found Solomon Hogue married Sarah DOVER on 9/2/1847 in Greene County.
I'm wondering if Solomon and James were brothers.
Any thoughts or other information?
Thanks for your time
PAM

Thanks for your reply. I strongly suspect this is the Levi Sumner that I am looking for. Do need to do more research to be sure. However, if you do not mind giving me more info on the parents and siblings of this Levi Sumner in your files, I would be greatly apprectiative. Might give me more to go on in my own research. Will be happy to share with you anything I find. If you wish to e-mail me direct, please feel free to do so.
Thanks

There are so many Jacobs and Josephs and Jonathans, it's hard to keep them straight. My line is...John and Eve, Frederick and Eve Catherine, John W. and Elizabeth, Samuel Martin and Cynthia Ann, William Jonathan and Sarah Neldon. The first John is as far back as I have gotten and am pretty sure he is the first to USA. I have him born before 1773, Frederick born abt 1779, John W. born 1815, Samuel born 1862 and William J. born 1882. Each generation and each family had a Jacob, etc. That was the Germanic way of naming children. Do you have anything about the first John ? I have a copy of the will he had in Coshocton Co., OH in 1827/28 but it, of course, doesn't tell where he was from.

Yes, we do have a connection, but I'm not sure how. Do you know who Jacob's father was ? Was he Frederick and wife Eve Catherine Wean Neldon ?? I think John W., my direct ancestor, is a brother to your Jacob maybe.

I would like to find the following cemeteries in Jefferson Twp. Looking for Dyserts who were shown in 1860 Census living in the area of Port Commerce in Eel River Twp. which is now part of Jefferson Twp. Would like to find the following: Hayes/Port Commerce Cemetery, Barton/Sand Hill Cemetery, Black Cemetery, Dixon/Dixson Cemetery and Griffith Cemetery. Also, if anyone knows of any other cemetery in that part of the Jefferson Twp. i.e., northern part, west of the White River, that would date from 1860, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

List,
Does anyone know if pictures or renderings of the delegates to the 1850-51
Indiana Constitutional Convention exist anywhere? My GGGG Grandfather,
Thomas Butler, was elected to represent Greene County and I thought this
might provide an avenue by which I could secure a picture/ rendering of him.
Thanks,

Is the Samuel Martin in Greene Co. the same as Samuel Enos Martin born 1862. Married Rachel A. Hatfield in the same county in 1881. His father was John Martin and I'm looking for info on him. He was married to my ggggrandmother (I'm through her second marriage). Do we share a relative?

I have Carrs and Martins from Greene co. Indiana. I don't know much about the Martins. My gggrandmother Mary Ann Wollam married JOhn Martin on 10 Feb 1861. I know they had a son named Samuel Enos Martin in 1862. I'm assuming that John died in the civil war. He died two years after they were married supposedly in tennessee. Mary Ann Wollam later remarried my gggrandfather Francis Marion Carr in 1876. They had three children together. Francis Marion Carr was born in1842 in Lawrence county, Indiana but he was married twice in Greene, Co. and his children were born there. What Carr's are you looking for. I do have quite a bit of info. on my line of Carr's there. I know there are other Carr's in Greene Co. but I haven't been able to tie them in yet.

My Lorenzo Brewer arrived in Greene County in about 1829 from Virginia. I think that Richard Brewer was his father, but I don't have hard proof. I know he had a son Joseph Brewer and several other children. I think the Richard Brewer who I believe is his father married a Betsey which could be short for Elizabeth. But I have it that they came from Virginia around Fredricksburg. Please let me know if you think they are the same. Thanks. Tina
