Hi ! mary;
I don't recall either if we have corresponded before or not, but I do
not remember hearing about a McClaran line. As close as I can get to a "Mc"
is the McKaig line which was actually a Sarah Bowman who married a McKaig and
later married my John Gilson In Columbiana Co. Ohio in 1851. John was born
1814 in Ohio. He later married Edna (Hunter) in Greene Co. Indiana in 1862.

These are the families I am interested in in the Greene CO, Owen Co
area. I have had lots of help from other people in finding information
and appreciate it. Thanks to Diane for the 1840 census...already new
possibilities have been suggested for investigation.
Does anyone know who or what The Davidson County Rangers were.
Does anyone know who and what Lieut Walkers Rangers were. Both are shown as
for The territory South of The Ohio, so Iassume they were a band of Peace
keepers or Indian Fighters due the time period. I am seeking information on
a George NUTTERFIELD who signed on as a private in 1792. Where were they
formed? Where did they recruit. I do know that George settled in Shelby Co,
Ky as early as 1790. I am seeking any information. George is shown on FTM
records as Revolutionary War 1780-1789, but, the only record I have, so far
is with the 2 above units. I asume that the Davidson County referred is
Davidson County Tn, as I dont know of another at that time. Or, it could
have been the home of Lt Walker. I have tried Ky archives and Nashville
archives, But, my experience is very Limited on records like these, so I
probably didnt do it right.I have been seeking info on George for about 30
years, so, naturally, I would be thrilled and appreciative for any
info.George is also shown as George NUTTERFEE/NUTTER, on various records,
and married Nancy Stepp McWilliams June 1804 in Shelby Co Ky.

How can I find them?

I am looking for descendents of:
Christopher and Rachel (Rachael) MILLER CITY (CITTY). They were in
Wright Twp., Greene Co., IN in the 1850 census.
James M. and Mary CITY THOMPSON. They were married in Wright Twp.,
Greene Co., IN December 9, 1847. In 1860, they appear to be in Sullivan
Co., IN. I believe their daughter, Rachel Thompson married Henry
Zackaria Neal October 28, 1882 in Howesville, Lewis Twp., Clay Co., IN.
I think Rachel at least was living in Greene Co., probably Jasonville,
at the time.
Robert E. and Margaret Ellen MINOR JORDAN. Robert was from Sandford,
sometimes IN, sometimes IL. Margaret was from Elizabethtown, KY.
Apparently they met during the Civil War and were married in Paris, IL.
I believe Robert ran an ice house and amusement park in Howesville,
Lewis twp., Clay Co., IN.
John and Elizabeth LOVE NEAL. Moved to Lewis Twp., Clay Co., IN in the
1830s along with John's siblings.
Thomas Coppock and Mary MATTOX NEAL. One of above John's brothers.
Mahlon and Mary Ann LOVE NEAL. John and Thomas' brother.
John W. and Sarah A. NEAL WILLIAMS. Sarah was the above brothers
sister.
Many of these families lived in Lewis Twp. around Howesville. I think
some of their descendents moved to Wright Twp., Greene Co., IN in the
Jasonville area. Howesville and Jasonville are less than 5 miles apart
if my memory is correct.
It is barely possible descendents ended up in Owen Co. or Sullivan Co.,
IN

Alfred Hunter in my database, I wonder if you have Alfreds parents names.
Best regards;
Dave. >>
Dave: According to my records, John Hunter who married Ann Andrews was born
about 1782 in Orange County, North Carolina, the son of Alexander Hunter who
was born about 1756 in Lancaster County, PA. John and Ann were the parents of
Daniel Washington Hunter who was born 9 Jan 1807 in Wayne County, KY and died
7 Oct 1865 in Highland Twp., Greene Co., IN. He was married to Laurana Starks
who was born 16 Apr 1816 in Indiana and died 20 Mar 1862 in Highland Twp. She
was a daughter of Thomas Starks and Margaret Stalcup.
Daniel and Laurana had at least 12 children: Alfred who m. Mary Ann Walls
(so Alfred was a grandson of John and Ann), William J., Hiram, Columbus
Jefferson, James Starks, George Washington, David Lindley, Amos, Isaac,
Berlin, Joseph, and Mary. I have dates of birth, marriages, and deaths and
spouses for all.
Alfred Hunter was a Civil War vet and contracted tuberculosis during
service. He died 1 Dec 1880 leaving Mary a young widow with three small
children: Lucinda, Kissiah, and Eli. Mary was second married to Samuel Wesley
Hancock, my grandfather. Lucinda married William E. McDaniel. Lucinda and her
mother Mary both died in 1946. They share a headstone in the cemetery at
Worthington.
I have one other Hunter whose parents I would like to identify. Thomas E.
Hunter married Rhoda Matilda Walls, daughter of Eli Walls and Rhoda Beasley,
24 Dec 1885 in Greene County. Who were the parents of Thomas?
Please let me have the descendancy from Andrew and Sydney down to you so
I can determine just what kind of cousins we are.
Arvil Hancock

My father, Frank Hancock, was born 4 Nov 1889 at Newark in Greene
County. His parents were Samuel Wesley Hancock and Mary Ann (Walls) Hunter
(widow of Alfred Hunter) were married 27 Sep 1882. His grandparents were Eli
Walls and Rhoda Beasley who were married 30 Oct 1853. They lived in Highland
Township where Eli was a farmer and a Baptist preacher. Eli and Rhoda had 7
daughters who married Bland, Misner, Davis, McDaniel and McCullough.
