Re: Look-up Please
by List user
Would anyone living in Greene County volunteer to do a look-up for me please?
I am searching for the date of death of Samuel Hudson, born about 1856 and
supposedly buried in Robison Cemetery in Jackson Township in Greene County,
Indiana. Samuel married Margaret Yockey who was born September 12, 1865 and
died October 28, 1938 in Greene County. Any information regarding these two
individuals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Shauna

Daryl:
You probably know already but I thought I would mention that, according
to a document put out by the U.S. Forest Service on the Hoosier National
Forest Region, Edmund Bingham built a log house about 1830 in the
Crawford Upland hill country of Greene County. The USFS document has a
picture of this house and states that it was dismantled in 1984 and now
stands reconstructed in the Monroe County Historical Museum, in
Bloomington. The display includes pioneer era furnishings as well as
the house itself.
The USFS document states that Edmund Bingham died in 1852 at the age of
78. It also gives an inventory of his estate and indicates which items
were chosen by his widow as her share of the estate.
BTW, your posting caught my eye because I often stayed in the home of my
high school buddy, Odell Bingham, son of Roy and Mabel Bingham in
Calvertsville. Odell and I joined the Navy together and went through
boot camp together. I also buddied a lot with Odell's brother Ogle.
This was during the early 1950s. My HS diploma was at Odell's when
their home burned and it went up in smoke. Odell died several years ago
and I regret that we never got to see each other much after we returned
from the Navy. His widow still lives, I believe, near Springville.

American Bottoms
by Stephen J. Stalcup
The American Bottoms is located primarily in Sections 24 & 23 of Township 7North, Range 4West--which is situated in the Southwest quadrant of Center Township in Greene County. This is a little confusing because the named Township boundaries don't always line up with the US Govt. survey boundaries. For example, most of Center Township lies in Range 3 West of Township 7 North. Clear as mud eh!
