I have the 1860 Indiana census on CD and I cannot locate the Jonathan H.
Smiley or the Joseph J. Smiley households. Are the names spelled
Smiley?
I did find Jacob Smiley [their father] in Daviess Co., household
1438/family #1413. His son James age 30 is in the household but wife
Rhoda and children are not! [This CD is a real pain to use - no search
capabilities.]
In 1997 Ray L. Staley [irastly(a)tima.com] shared group sheets on this
Smiley family. It is his research. The ones I'm most interested in are
connected to the DELLINGER family.

Hi Everyone,
Here is a list of the townships of Greene Co. with
the names of cities, towns & villages located within
each. These are taken from a Greene Co. map. I've
tried to also note some towns/villages that don't
appear on the present-day map, but were in existence
in the past. I may have to break this up into 2 or more
messages.
I may not have all of the older villages listed, so if you
know of one I've missed or don't know about please let
me know so that I can add it to my own list here at home.

Am still trying to find a copy to get township information from. Anyone have a
copy
they would like to part with OR rent out OR loan out? Am wanting just the town
ship information and information on forming the county. Have found a NEW copy
of the reprint and they want $65 for it - kinda out of my budget.
Any leads appreciated.

Smiley researchers,
I don't find a Nathan Smiley in my files, but I did
find a Jonathon Smiley in an 1860 Daviess Co.
Census. This Jonathon matches the birth year
for the Jonathon who married Sarah Dellinger, from
your info. The make-up of this household seems
pretty odd, and may not be the one your looking for,
but I'm passing it along anyhow.
1860 Daviess Co., IN Census, Clarke's Prairie
Page 195, Dwelling # 1439, Family # 1414
Jonathon H. Smiley 18 Farmer b/p IN
Nancy Jane Simpson 13 IN
George W. Simpson 9 IN
Isn't this an odd arrangement? Don't know
who they're connected to, although the next
family listed is as follows:
Same page, Dwelling # 1440, Family # 1415
Joseph J. Smiley 22 Farmer IN
Sarance " 24 KY
I also have a couple of James Smileys listed
in this census, but don't know whether they're
connected to mine. Did you see the Rhody
Smiley marriage in Daviess Co.? It's listed
in the marriage index and is as follows:
Smiley, Rhody E. to William H. Hubbard 5 Aug. 1883
(Book 5, Page 457)

Barbara,
I have a REBECCA PATTERSON (b. 1807) that came from North Carolina. Before her
move to Greene County she was married to BENJAMIN HINSHAW / HENSHAW. After the
death of BENJAMIN she married WILLIAM BYNUM. REBECCA & WILLIAM married in 1836
and lived the rest of their lives in Greene County.
Could this be one of your Pattersons?

James SMILEY c1830- and wife Rhoda DELLINGER

but I have not located them in 1860
Jonathan SMILEY c1842-1913 and wife Sarah DELLINGER
They married 1863 in Daviess Co.

Richard,
I found a marriage for Nichomdemus Flatter to Lucinda
Chaney, 26 December 1850 (Book E, Page 227)
There are several other Flatter marriages listed, also.
If you'd like this list of marriages, email & I'll send
them along to you.

Hello,
There is a John Rector, b. 11 Jan. 1835, d. 11 Nov. 1917
& a Kate Melton Rector, b. 23 Oct. 1840, d. 10 Jan. 1923
buried in the Owensburg Cemetery in Jackson Twp.
These are the only Rectors listed in the 1994 Eastern
Greene Co. Cemetery book.
Also, there is a Jesse Rector listed in the Greene Co.
Marriage Index, 1821-1920. He married Julia Sheehy
on 7 November 1866 (Book H, Page 12).
Hope this helps.
