My Greene County ancestors are Hugh Semple, born Oct 1821 in Ireland,
died Sept, 1887 in Greene and Married Mar 1851 in Greene to Mary Cooper,
born Jan 1829 in NC, died July 1901 in Greene. His parents were William
Semple and Ester Hemphill. They lived in Van Buren Twp, Monroe Co at
their deaths. Mary's parents were Isaac Cooper and his wife Asentha. I
know very little about them. He was born abt 1794 in NC she abt 1803 in
Va. Both died (he between 1850 and 1860; she between 1860 and 1870) in
Greene Co. Most of Hugh and Mary's children moved to Jasper County,

All of the original land sales from the U. S. Government should be a
matter of record in the County Recorder's Office, not only for Greene
County, but the other 91 counties.
The Archives Division, Indiana State Library, has a complete set of the
records for the State.
The Winaman Land Office and Fort Wayne Land Office Records are now on
line from the State Archives Page.
A group of volunteers is now going through the Vincennes Land Office
Records in order to get them prepared to be available on the WWW, also.
No completion date has been determined. Lot's of work to do before they
are ready for the internet. I know, I'm one of the volunteers, when I
have the time.
If anyone is on this list from Greene County, can you tell us about the
availability of the original land entries in Greene County other than
those records in the Recorder's office? Have they been published in the
past? Is a copy availabe at any of the libraries located in Greene
County?

Hi Sam, Sammie and anyone else on the list,
My name is Carolyn S. lysandrou and I'm new to the list, having just joined it
last evening.
I'm researching the following Greene Co IN lines:
ARCHER
MORRIS
HUBBELL
HARRIS
Hey, one question, where can I find old pioneer land records? Owen Co has
published them, Clay has them someplace and Parke haas them in the library-
what about Greene?
Glad to be on the list!

Yup Sam Cline. Just you and me Sammie Leap. Who are you researching in
Greene Co., IN?
I'm researching my g grandfather Isaac Henry Southard. He was in
Richland Twp in 1860 with his spouse Sarah Gentry Southard and all their
little ones. I was in hopes of finding some of the offspring of those
little ones.
