Am searching for my gggrandfather's family-his name was Baltus UNSEL(L).
The name has been spelled UNSIL-UNCEL-UNCIL. I don't know names of sibs
or parents. He lived in Utica, NY and was killed in 1860 at ? age-his
widow Catherine ZIMMERMAN UNSEL(L) was approx. 30 years old. His only
son was John as was a grandson. I am not even sure if Baltus was his
real name or middle name-poss. shortened from another. We are at a dead
end.
In a census of 1825 in Utica which I can't get, my elderly aunt
remembered an Unsel family who cited Scotland as where they came from.
The Unsel(l)s are not Scottish. We thought perhaps they meant Scotland
in your state. Can anyone help us? Could someone do a 1910/1920 census
index lookup? Thank you so much.

In answer to "Nettie Mae".
Greene Co. birth records start 1885. Not all births were recorded however.
Marriage records start 1821. You can order a marriage record from the Greene
Co. Clerk's Office, County Courthouse, Bloomfield, IN 47424.
The 1850 Indiana Census shows David Shrum as living in Jefferson
Township, Greene County, Indiana, and the following is given:
NAME AGE PLACE OF BIRTH
David Shrum 42 Tenn.
Harriet 42 Kentucky
Lydia 20 Indiana
John 18 Indiana
Stephen 14 Indiana
Sarah V. 12 Indiana
Theresa 9 Indiana
Lewis H. 7 Indiana
Mary C. 3 Indiana
Eliza J, 4/12 Indiana
These entries were made on Sept. 5,1850.
I would like to know if David is buried in Greene County and if any of
these people show up in the 1860 census for Greene County. Any help would
be appreciated. Thank you
Carole,
Great to hear from you! I decided to copy my reply to the Greene Co
mailing list just in case there is someone else who could use the
information on the NEELEY surname. You're right, the info is very sparse,
but in genealogy any info is exciting. Here's what it says:
Early KY-- Jesse POWELL b c1803 KY wife Mary b c1806 KY were pioneer
settlers about 3 miles NW of present Linton. Early POWELL and Joseph W.
NEELEY 2 Feb 1845; Nancy POWELL and Joseph n. PEGG 23 Jan 1845; and Rhoda
POWELL and Thomas GREENWAY 12 Jul 1849.
Hope this helps a little!

His wife, Gula Elma Davis, d 12 Feb 1894, IN.

Jack -
As you probably noted from your copy, this information on Early Settlers in
Greene Co appears in many issues of the Central Georgia Gen Soc Quarterly.
Vol 12, No.4 includes a brief list of the original sources used. The
entire series was expected to cover over" 575 surnames plus many more by
marriage". There was a logical reason for assembling this information but
I've forgotten what it was; possibly because the original contributor,
William R. Henry, was intrigued by the fact that a large number of Greene
Co immigrants came from a specific place in Georgia and then broadened his
study to include the entire South. Keep in mind, however, that all of this
information comes from Greene Co. records, not from actual Southern
sources. Unfortunately I have only brief excerpts covering my own family
lines but the collection should be available in many genealogy libraries.

Hi
This is my first posting. I am looking for James Calivan Carmichael and his
family. James was born in Greene County in 1863. I have no idea who his
parents were. He married Rachael Bays in 1885 and they lived in Terre
Hauted. Would like any informationon Carmichael or Bays. Rachaels parents
were Mortace and MaryJane (Blankenship). Thanks for your time and help.

Hello,
I have received some indication that my previous e-mail with the
lookup information did not make it to everyone. In fact, it did not loop
back to me via the INGREENE mailing list, so I thought I should resend it.
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate for some of you, but I wanted to make sure
that the information got to those who need it. Thanks!
