Walter Carpenter will known among Fairmont Friends, celebrated his 99th birthday in
Richmond. 45 yrs. ago Mr. Carpenter planted the trees that line the front drive and
border the east campus of Earlham College, there are 25 different varieties.

Co. Ind. at close of civil war, came to Grant Co. 28 yrs. ago. Mbr. Friends Ch. age

Julia Ione, wife of Elwood Townsend, Marion.

Mrs. Ursula Johnson died Sat. night at home of son, Charley Johnson at Gas City, 57 yrs.

Maine.
Twenty one yrs ago in the Fairmount News(from files of Fairmount News) Among the sick
was Miss Alice Rohrer, Miss Linnie Cloud, and Miss Della Rush. 2nd Gas Well just
drilled at the site chosen for the Soldiers Home is not a success. The home no doubt will
be relocated. Fairmount will be represented at Gen. Harrisons Inaugeration.

Albert Paulus, Wm. Neff of Fairmount, Mrs. wm. Deibert, Charles and Franklin Neff of
Peru.

Mrs. Olive P. Frost and her infant dau. were laid to rest Sat. aft, Park Cem. in the same
casket. The deceased was 41 yrs. of age and leaves a husband and 3 daughters.

Claude Leach of Matthews visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leach.

Fowlerton: Charley Leach has set up a feedmill on his farm north of town and is now
prepared to grind his own feed.
J. L. Smith was called to Fairmount, fri. by the death of his sister, Mrs. Geo. frost.
A movement is on foot to make a pleasure resort at Lake Galatia, a mile north of here. If
the plan goes through serveral boats will be placed on the Lake and a number of amusements
installed. Also a servies of basketball games between good amateurs would also be
scheduled.
Little Ridge, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Addison are entertaining a new baby girl at their home.

Mrs. Charles Dead: Alvin Wilson and Barnaba Baogue returned from Paw Paw, Mich from the
funeral of Mrs. John charles. The deceased was the dau. of Nathan and Mary Wilson. Within
the past 4 years, 6 members of this family have passed away. The mother, Mary Wilson, one
son Rufus, and four daughters, Mrs. Elijah Elliott, Mrs. Emily bogue, Miss Hannah Wilson,
and Mrs. Charles. Joseph, Alvin, Henry and Thomas are the surviving brothers. The
deceased also leaves a husband, 2 sons, Henry and Fred and two dau. Mrs. bertha Berkey and
Mrs. Mildred Bangs. Mrs. Charles was 52yrs of age.

Civil War Vet. Moved to Kansas in 1873, Burial at North Branch friends Ch. Leaves wife
and sister.
Arthur Leach arrested for selling a note worth 50 dollars. The signature attached being
that of his mother, Mrs. Luther Harrison with Charles M. Leach of Fairmount as security
note not due for 6 mos. this is said to not be the first trouble for the young man, his
previous troubles being settled out of court by relatives.

Rachel J. Moreland, 7 children born to this union, wife and 4 children, survive, Mrs.
Chrs. Sisson and Mrs. M.F. Tackett of Muskegon,Mich, Mrs. John Roberts, and only son, Ozro
of Fairmount.

Martha bell wife of Murphy Bell of Summitville, died Mon eve. born in randolph Co. N.C. 18
feb. 1842, dau of Jehu and Rebecca Stewart. Of a Family of 10 children, only one, Mrs.
Ivy Luther of this City survives. Mrd. in 1868 to Murphy Bell, he and 3 child. survive,
Greeley and Gurney bell of Terre Haute and Mrs. Ellen Earley of Muncie survive. Family has
lived in Indiana since 1879, Mr. and Mrs. Bell both members of the Friends Society.
