My ancestor, Samuel Heavlin/Hevlin with wife Mary LaPorte/Layport, and
Samuel's brother Stephen, (married to Margaret Layport), moved to
Jefferson/Harrison Co., OH late 1790/early 1800 (Samuel & Stephen b. NJ, s/o Stephen
Haviland; married in MD to Layport sisters, d/o George; may have lived in PA for a
short time, before or after MD, before coming to OH). There are family stories
that Stephen and Samuel also had a brother named John who came to Ohio with
them, but we haven't been able to locate any trace of John.
Below is the census record of Samuel's son, John Jay Heavilin, b. 1805 OH,
after he moved to Grant Co., IN:

1 female 30-40yrs
Note: Living next door to Gabriel JOHNSON.
However, there was still an unidentified John Hevlin of the same age group
as John J. still living in Harrison Co. after John J. had moved to Grant Co.,

3 females 0-5yrs

I was wondering if the above John might have been a son of the elusive John
Hevlin, b/o Stephen and Samuel of Harrison Co., OH? Also, did John have a
son named Elijah who moved to Grant Co. around the same time his cousin, John
Jay Heavilin did?:
