FORMER RESIDENT DIES AT 81 YRS.
John McElfresh, 81 died Friday morning at his home near Swayzee following an
illness of two years. He had been critical the past month.
Mr. McElfresh was a former resident of Jonesboro for several years. He was born
August 11, 1869, in Madison Co.
Surviving are the wife, Lizzie J; three step-sons, Russell and Ralph McClain, of
Detroit, Mich., and Verlin Farthing, of Marion, a step-daughter, Mrs Mabel Berry, of
Oakland, Calf. LeRoy Sapp, Rollie and George Bond of Jonesboro and Rev. Brose Bond of
Hartsville, are nephews; Mrs. Tressa Ice, of Marion, and Mrs. Brozella Tuterow, of Gas
City are nieces of the deceased.
Funeral services were held at Diggs Funeral Home in Marion at 2 o'clock Monday
aft. where the body was brought home Monday morning from his late home and lay in state
until the services. The Rev. Simons of Swayzee officiated and burial took place in the
I.O.O.F. cemetery at Marion.
