The Marion library has 2 plats earlier than the 1877. Land records would be at the
courthouse in Marion, you would need to go there. Newspapers start in 1867, you should
also check the county history books. Wabash is only about 20 minutes from Marion.
Check out the library webpage at
www.marion.lib.in.us and go to the Indiana Room page to
see what resources we have available.

Subject: [INGRANT] Somerset Indiana
Do we have any Somerset historians here?
Some things I am interested in:
- property records/plat maps for Richland Township 1840-1870. I have the
one from the INgenweb site dated 1877.
- the exact home locations of Jacob Flummer, Thomas Goldsworth and George
Badger 1840-1870 ish.
Looking at maps today vs the 1877 map it looks as though the houses then are
in roughly the same spot now and there are not all that many new houses.
Is this right?
-Did Jacob Flummer or Thomas Goldsworth ever actually own land?
- Do I go to Marion to look at old land records or might there be records in
Wabash? (I'm driving down from Chicago so a shorter drive would be nice.)
- Were there newspapers there back then?
Would anyone like to share what they know with me?
:-)
Thank you!
Julie Goldsworth, descended from all named above.
