Hello -
I have not submitted the surnames I am researching for some time, so here
they are:
Eastes (Estes, ect.), Harvey, Webb, Cunningham, Scott, Havens, Pulley, Long,
Poor, Parr, and Eck.
I was born in Marion in 1921 and graduated from MHS in the Class of '39. My
Father was born in Landessville and my Mother in Gas City. We had many other
relatives in Marion and Fairmount. I have five lines ancestral lines from
Grant and surrounding Counties. Many of my family are buried in the IOOF Cem
and Grant Memorial Cem. I have been researching my lines for over 50 years.
I have an enormous amount of information on the Eastes/Harvey Families.
Obadiah Estes and Francis Harvey migrated from SC, up the Wilderness Trail
into KY in 1798. They bought land and lived in KY for three years. They then
moved into the SW corner of OH until 1802/3 and when land was available in
the Cincinnati, OH Land Office they bought land and moved into IN Territory
to what is now Mt Comfort, Hancock Co., SE of Indianapolis. The Eastes/Harvey
Cemetery there on the original homestead where Obadiah, Francis and many of
the family are buryed. I covered all this and their descendants in my
hardback book, The Eastes Families of Indana. I donated copies of this book
to the Marion and Anderson libraries when it was published in 1994.
Now we have found Obadiah's father and siblings and I am writing another
book, The Descendants of Elisha Estes of Roane Co., TN. This book is growing
so large I am afraid it will never be bound in a single volume! I already
have 2600 people and more to go!
I also wrote a book, The Descendants of John Long Sr. of Maryland, 1685-1746
and published it in 1996. This was my Mother's line. Many of her family were
in early Grant and surrounding Counties.
I would be glad to contribute any or all of it to someone who would make it
available for others to use in the future.
I have some publications but would be interested in obtaining a copy of any
of the old books on Grant County or surrounding Counties. I have bought some
books in the past from The BookMark, in Knightstown, IN - Ph 765-345-5133.
They reprint and stock old books on IN. If you hear of any others please send
me their addresses and/or phone numbers.
Best Regards
Roy Eastes, Gulfport, MS

When we record our heritage we take great pride in looking at our list of
ancestors and admire their origins, migrations and accomplishments. But,
what good is it - unless it’s true?
We need stories and rumors, they are great and often lead to the truth!
BUT - Help eliminate errors. Don't take anything as Fact! Check references
for validity! If we don’t our children’s children will be led down false
trails and they will never be able to find their true heritage.
