Dear Sheila:
This is Andrea Burke, I am appalled by your information about the Marion National Cemetery
destroying it's records after 20 years, or any years for that matter!!
What are they doing? Why would they do that? Do they realize that we genealogists need
those records???
Thanks, I just wanted to vent my upset about anyone purposely destroying valuable
genealogical information!!

Dawna,
The cemetery will not be able to help you at all. They destroy their
records ( I believe) after they are 20 yrs old. Your Lewis most likely was
a veteran and was living their at the time of his death. And buried their
on the grounds - Marion National Cemetery.
http://www.interment.net/data/us/in/grant/marionat/index.htm
Records of burials were provided to this website by the U.S. Department of
Veteran's Affairs, on July 2, 2000. This is not a complete list of burials,
only those that are on file with the VA.
Jones, Lewis, d. 11/04/1908, Plot: 2 1484, *
* Records with an asterisk at the end indicates those that have not been
verified as accurate by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Now I think the only other way you might find out some information on Lewis
Jones is if their was an obit. in the newspaper and they are located at the
Marion Public Library. Their address is on my website.
Good luck and may you find all you seek.

I recently found on
findagrave.com a listing for Lewis JONES d. Nov
4,
1908 buried in the Marion National cemetery (Grant Co.) plot 2 1484.
I have been looking for a Lewis or Luther Jones that died between 1907 and
1915 and
who lived in Marion, Indiana in 1907.
I called the cemetery to see if I could get more info, but they have not
called me
back. I there someone who could tell me how much they charge to
search their nrecords for more information (next of kin, who paid for the
plot etc...) Or does someone who lives there have access to Obiruaries for
Marion for this date?
Thank you,
Dawna in Oregon
