Thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to try and answer my question about
Roodville.
I was looking up obituaries that were in newspapers back in the 1890's, and about 5
or 6 people who died in Grant County were listed as living in Roodville.
The reason I am especially interested in finding out where Roodville was is that I have
ancestors who were in Grant County in the 1800's and their last name was Rood.
Several years ago I remember seeing a creek on an old map at the Marion Library which was
called Rood Ditch.
I am going home to visit next week, so I will be going to the Marion Library and I will
try to find out then where Roodville was. I just thought someone on this list might
know.
People keep emailing me and telling me I must be mistaken about the name, but I am sure
there probably was a place people called Roodville, since there was the Rood family and
since it was mentioned on 5 different obituaries. I think it is probably one of those
deals where it was a very small community and at one time it was known as Roodville, but
as years went on, people stopped calling it that and the name became forgotten. We have a
place like that in Huntington County. It used to be known as Browns Corner in the old
days, but you say that name to people who haven't lived in the area all of their lives
and they don't know where you're talking about.
Thanks,
Linda
