Hi,
I have caught the tale end of this conversation.
I live a few blocks from downtown Marion and will be happy to be of help
if I know exactly what is needed.
You may personal email me or write here.

Dawna,
Marion is my hometown, but I haven't lived there in many years, and when I do go there
it's for a family visit,
which doesn't leave time for a trip to the library.
Your best bet might be to write to the Grant County Clerk, Court House, Marion, IN 46952,
and request
photocopies of the complete estate settlement of the Lewis JONES who died in 1908. Also
request the
same for any other Lewis or Louis JONES who died in Grant Co. between 1 Jan. 1910 and the
date of
his daughter's 1915 marriage. (This is not a large request - the probate volumes are
usually indexed
and if they're not, their contents are still in alphabetical and chronological order,
so it's very easy to
look up.) Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a check for, say, $10.
Death and probate records are considered to be "primary" records - records made
close to the event
by the person involved or a close relative or a government office, and are considered to
be the most
accurate type of record. Secondary records such as county histories, obits, etc., are
often less accurate.
So, primary records are considered to be proof and secondary records often are not.
I certainly don't want to offend you by giving unasked-for genealogy lessons; I just
don't know whether
you've been doing research for a week or for 20 years, so I've put in some how-to,
why-to information!
Let me know if the above doesn't work for you - there's always the possibility of
hiring an on-site
person to help.
