The Men On The Wall
Their faces in the available photographs peer out; young, smiling, black and
white.
They are the 32 men from grant County listed on the vietnam Veterans Memorial in
Washington, D.C. their names are also inscribed in the memorial at the Marion Municipal
Building. The information on their background and what happened to them has been garnered
from newspaper clipping, family members, veterans and other records.
They are:
William McKinley Berry: Berry, 21, a Marine, arrived in Vietnam on April 24, 1968. He
died Sept. 21, 1968, in an aircraft crash in the Quang Tri province in South Vietnam. He
was single and from Marion. On The Wall, his name is on the 43rd panel west, line 51.
Mark Ryan Black: Black, 22, was killed Aug. 14, 1967, in the Quang Tri Province of South
Vietnam. In a letter to his parents, a fellow soldier said Black was killed while running
from one bunker to another for ammunition. A native of Sweetser, he was single. On The
Wall, his name is on the 24th panel east, line 108.
Ralph W. Blackerby: Blackerby was a 20 year-old Army man, killed May 23, 1967, in the
Quang Ngai province of South Vietnam. From Grant County, he arrived in Vietnam on dec.
28, 1965, and was married. On The Wall, his name is on the 20th panel east, line 89.
Rollie Lee Bolden: Bolden died three months and one day after he arrived in Vietnam on
Aug. 16, 1965. He was the first man from Grant County to died in Vietnam, Nov. 17, 1965,
at the age of 23. He was single and served with the Army. On The Wall, his name is on
the third panel east, line 70.
Emmett Lee Booth: Booth had served with the Marines for 20 years when he died June 11,
1967, injured by a mine or booby trap. He was 39 and died in the Quang Nam province of
South Vietnam. He was from Grant County and was married. On The Wall, his name is on the
21st panel east, line 86.
Steven Keith Brandenburg: Brandenburg, 21, died Aug. 19, 1968 in the Quang Nam province
of South Vietnam. From Grant County brandenburg was single and arrived in Vietnam on Nov.
17, 1967. On The Wall, his name is on the 48th panel west, line 52.
William Frank Clover Jr.: A Marine, Clover was single when he died in a non=hostile
helicopter crash in South Vietnam on May 12, 1967. He was 22 and from grant County. On
The wall, his name is on the 19th panel east, line 93.
Donald Earl Cutler: Cutler, 22, died in South Vietnam on Sept. 3, 1967. He was from
Marion and arrived in Vietnam on April 6, 1967. Cutler was single and served with the
Army. On The Wall, his name is on the 25th panel east, line 91.
Carl Dingus: Dingus died Feb. 3, 1968 in the Quang Tri province of South Vietnam. He was
23 and married. Dingus, from Marion, served with the Army and arrived in Vietnam on Nov.
26, 1967. On The Wall, his name is on the 37th panel east, line 6.
David Lee Dixon: Dixon, a Marine, was 29 years old when he died June 2, 1967 in the Quang
Tin province of South Vietnam. He was shot by a sniper while on patrol. He was from
Marion and was married. On The Wall, his name is on the 21st panel east, line 32.
Daniel Ross Fankboner: Bankboner arrived in Vietnam on May 30,1969, and died Dec. 7,
1969, in the Binh Thuan province of South Vietnam. He was 18. Fankboner, from Marion was
single and served with the Army. On The Wall, his name is on the 15 panel west, line 35.
Thomas Jefferson Fears: Fears, 21 died from injuries from a mine or booby trap March 2,
1966. From Marion, he served with the Marines and was single. He died in the Quang Tin
province of South Vietnam.
Marvin Edward Glassburn: From Marion, Glass burn served with the Marines when he died
March 21, 1966. He was 23 and was killed in the Quang Nagal province of South Vietnam.
Glassburn was married. On The Wall, his name is on the sixth panel east, line 31.
Larry Jo Goss: Goss was serving with the Marines when he died at the age of 23, From
Grant County, on Feb. 14, 1968, he was declared missing in action. In march, he was
declared dead, hit by mortal fire. Goss was married. On The Wall, his name is on the 39th
panel east, line 32.
Joseph Donald Guerrero: Guerrero, 19, died in Soutth Vietnam. From Marion, Guerrero
arrived in Vietnam on July 8, 1965, and died Feb. 6, 1966. He was single. On The Wall,
his name is on the fifth panel east, line 6.
Daniel Neil Heater: Heater, 21 died in the Thau Thien province of South Vietnam on March
12, 1970. From Gas City, he arrived in Vietnam on July 13, 1969, and served with the Army.
He was single. On The Wall, his name is on the 13th panel west, line 117.
Terry Virgil Leach: Leach was serving with the Marines when he was killed Sept 2, 1967,
in the Quang Tri province od South Vietnam. He was 20 and was from Marion. Leach was
single. On The Wall, his name is on the 25th panel east, line 86.
Jack Charles Lee: Lee, 22, died in the Quang Tin province of South Vietnam on June 11,
1969. He arrived July 6, 1968, and served with the Army. From Van Buren, Lee was single.
On The Wall, his name is on the 22nd panel west, line 22.
Keitth Alan Lochner: Lochner died less than three months after he arrived in Vietnam in
the Quang Tin province of South Vietnam. From Marion, Lochner arrived in Vietnam on Jan.
28, 1970, and died April 22, of that year from a mine or booby trap. He was 21 and
single. Lochner was the last man from Grant County to die in Vietnam. On The Wall, his
name is on the 11th panel west, line 37.
Harry E. Mitchell: Mitchell, from Marion, was almost 20 years old when he arrived in
Vietnam on May 6, 1968, serving with the Navy. His death is listed as non-hostile,
Mitchell was single.
Larry Lee Morris: Morris, from Gas City, died in the Quang Tri province in South Vietnam
on June 7, 1967. He was 20. Morris served with the Marines and was single. On The Wall,
his name is on the 21st panel east, line 69.
Robert Harold Parcher Jr: Parcher, 18 arrived in Vietnam on Aug. 17, 1968, and died Feb.
8, 1969, two days before his 19th birthday. from Marion, he died in the Pleiku province
of South Vietnam while serving with the Army. He was single. On The Wall, his name is on
the 33rd panel west, line 88.
Lynn Allen Pierson: Pierson, 20, died in the Tay Ninh province in South Vietnam. From
Marion, he arrived in Vietnam on Feb. 26, 1968, and died April 23, 1968. He was single. On
The Wall, his name is on the 51st panel east, line 41.
Steven Melvin Poe: Poe, 22, arrived in Vietnam on June 12, 1969, and died Aug. 20, 1969,
in the Quang Nam province of South Vietnam. A Navy medic, he was going to help a wounded
Marine when he was hit. From Marion, he was married. On The Wall, his name is on the 19th
panel west, line 81.
Kenneth Alan Richey: Richey, 21, died the Long Khanh province of South Vietnam from a
mine or a booby trap. From Marion, he served with the Army and was married. Richey
arrived in Vietnam on March 20, 1969, and died Dec. 7, 1969. On The Wall, his name is on
the 15th panel west, line 37.
David Amos Scott: Scott, 21 died in South Vietnam. from Marion, Scott was single. He
arrived in Vietnam on July 8, 1965, and died May 6, 1966. On The Wall, his name is on the
seventh panel east, line 36.
Larry Dee Sherman: Sherman was serving with the Army when he died on March 13, 1968, in
the Pleiku province of South Vietnam. Sherman, 21, was single. He arrived in Vietnam on
dec. 6, 1967. On The Wall, his name is on the 44th panel east, line 41.
Donald Joseph Smith: Smith, 19, died Jan. 19, 1969, in the Tay Ninh province of South
Vietnam. From Marion Smith arrived in Vietnam on Sept. 11, 1968, and served with the
Army. On The Wall, his name is on the 34th panel west, line 40.
Edmund Burke "Bill" Travis: Travis, 21 died June 27, 1967, at Khhe-Sanh. He
died just five days before he was scheduled to come home. A soldier who knew him told
Travis' mother that he was sleeping in his bunk when a bomb came in and blew off the
back of his head. He died a short time later. From sweetser, he was single and served
with the Marines. On The Wall, his name is on the 22nd panel east, line 73.
Michael Warren Travis: Michael Travis told his mother that he had a score to settle in
Vietnam, the death of his brother Bill. He died less than five months after he arrived in
the Quang Nam province of south Vietnam. Travis arrived in Vietnam on Jan. 15, 1968, and
died June 7 of that year. His mother said he was killed while out on a mission. He and
13 other soldiers came up over a hill and they were all killed. He was 19 and single.
From Sweetser, he served with the Marines. On The Wall, his name is on the 59th panel
west, line 28.
Terry Lee Weaver: Weaver, 22, died in the LOng An province of South Vietnam on March 2,
1968. He arrived in Vietnam on Dec. 1, 1967, serving with the Army. From Marion, Weaver
was single. On The Wall, his name is on the 42nd panel east, line 44.
Stephen Louis Wright: Wright, 21 died in the Dinh Tuong province of South Vietnam while
serving with the Army. A resident of Grant County, he arrived Jan. 4, 1968, and died July
9, 1968. He was shot by a sniper while administering first aid to a wounded man. On The
wall, his name is on the 52nd panel west, line 5.
