Before the discovery of gas there were 2 glass factories in Indiana. Now
there are 62 of them. Marion, 7;
Anderson, 6; Muncie,6; Elwood, Dunkirk, Gas City, Fairmount, 4 each. Alexandria,
Pendleton, 3 each. Kokomo, Hartford City, Red Key, Greenfield, and Summitville, 2.
Twelve other thowns have one each. The aggregate value of the plants is $3,949, 168
Annual cost of materials, $2764,988. they employ 9,728 persons, including, 7,229 men,
2,056 boys and 443 women and girls. they pay wages to the amount of $ 8,742,784. Glass
workers receive high wages. Highest daily wage in the state last year was $25.00, the next
highest was $16.33, the lowest $1.87 and the average was $7.75.
Products include, plate glass window glass, lamps, globes, chimmneys,
Bohemian glass, flint, table and ornamental ware. these products go all over the U.S.

A factory of the U.S. Window Glass Co. at Tiffin Ohio, will be removed to gas
City. About 200 employes will remove to Gas City.
